A leadless biostimulator has a housing including an electronics compartment, an electronics assembly mounted in the electronics compartment, a proximal electrode that disposed on and/or integrated into the housing, and an electrical feedthrough assembly. The electrical feedthrough assembly includes a distal electrode and a flange. The flange is mounted on the housing. The distal electrode is electrically isolated from the flange by an insulator and configured to be placed in contact with target tissue to which a pacing impulse is to be transmitted by the leadless biostimulator. A mount is mounted on the flange and thereby mounted on the electrical feedthrough assembly. A fixation element is mounted on the mount and configured to facilitate fixation of the leadless biostimulator to tissue of a patient.

Leadless biostimulator and electrical feedthrough assembly for leadless biostimulator

A leadless biostimulator including an attachment feature to facilitate precise manipulation during delivery or retrieval is described. The attachment feature can be monolithically formed from a rigid material, and includes a base, a button, and a stem interconnecting the base to the button. The stem is a single post having a transverse profile extending around a central axis. The transverse profile can be annular and can surround the central axis. The leadless biostimulator includes a battery assembly having a cell can that includes an end boss. A tether recess in the end boss is axially aligned with a face port in the button to receive tethers of a delivery or retrieval system through an inner lumen of the stem. The attachment feature can be mounted on and welded to the cell can at a thickened transition region around the end boss. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Leadless pacemaker having attachment feature

A leadless biostimulator, such as a leadless cardiac pacemaker, having a header assembly that includes overmolded components, is described. The header assembly includes a helix mount overmolded on a flange of an electrical feedthrough assembly. A fixation element is mounted on the helix mount. The overmolded helix mount fills a recess in an outer surface of the flange to robustly join the header assembly components. The electrical feedthrough assembly includes an electrode contained within the flange to deliver electrical impulses to a target anatomy, and an insulator that separates the electrode from the flange. The overmolded helix mount can conform or adhere to the outer surfaces of the flange and the insulator to electrically isolate the electrode from the flange. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

An implantable pulse generator including a header, a can, and a filtered feedthrough assembly. The header including lead connector blocks. The can coupled to the header and including a wall and an electronic substrate housed within the wall. The filtered feedthrough assembly including a flange mounted to the can and having a feedthrough port, a plurality of feedthrough wires extending through the feedthrough port, and an insulator brazed to the feedthrough port of the flange. The filtered feedthrough assembly further including a capacitor having the plurality of feedthrough wires extending there through, an insulating washer positioned between and abutting the insulator and the capacitor at least in the area of the braze joint such that the capacitor and the braze joint are non-conductive, and an electrically conductive material adhered to the capacitor and the flange for grounding of the capacitor.

Filtered feedthrough assembly for use in implantable medical device

An electrical feedthrough assembly, which is configured to be mounted on a housing of a leadless biostimulator, comprises an electrode body including a cup having an electrode wall extending distally from an electrode base around an electrode cavity, an electrode tip mounted on a distal end of the electrode body, and a filler in the electrode cavity between the electrode base and the electrode tip, wherein the filler includes a therapeutic agent. The electrode tip is configured to be placed in contact with target tissue to which a pacing impulse is to be transmitted by the leadless biostimulator. A pin extends proximally from the electrode base, wherein the pin is configured to be into contact with an electrical connector of an electronics assembly within the housing of the leadless biostimulator.

A biostimulator, such as a leadless cardiac pacemaker, including an electrical feedthrough assembly mounted on a housing, is described. An electronics compartment of the housing can contain an electronics assembly to generate a pacing impulse, and the electrical feedthrough assembly can include an electrode tip to deliver the pacing impulse to a target tissue. A monolithically formed electrode body can have a pin integrated with a cup. The pin can be electrically connected to the electronics assembly, and the cup can be electrically connected to the electrode tip. Accordingly, the biostimulator can transmit the pacing impulse through the monolithic pin and cup to the target tissue. The cup can hold a filler having a therapeutic agent for delivery to the target tissue and may include retention elements for maintaining the filler at a predetermined location within the cup.

A pulse generator comprises a header connector assembly coupled with a housing. The header connector assembly includes a connector assembly and a header enclosing the connector assembly. The connector assembly includes an electrically insulative segment, a first electrically conductive segment, and a second electrically conductive segment axially spaced apart from the first electrically conductive segment by the electrically insulative segment. Each electrically conductive segment includes a connector ring, a spring housing and a spring supported by the spring housing. The connector ring and spring housing are in electrical communication with each other. The electrically insulative segment includes an insulator ring that is positioned between the first and second electrically conductive segments. The insulator ring includes a first end and a second end axially opposite the first end. The first end includes a first recess that opens axially and receives therein a portion of the first electrically conductive segment.

A leadless pacemaker includes a battery subassembly, a feedthrough subassembly, and an electronics subassembly coupled between the battery subassembly and the feedthrough subassembly, the electronics subassembly including an electronics package, and a housing configured to provide a hermetic seal and comprising a first retaining feature and a second retaining feature configured to secure the electronics package within the housing.

Systems and methods for leadless pacemaker electronics assemblies

In accordance with one embodiment, a leadless implantable medical device (LIMD), compromises a hermetic housing that has a distal portion and proximal portion. An electrode is proximate to the distal portion. An electronics package is disposed in the housing, in which the electronics package is configured to generate and deliver stimulation signals to the electrode. A fixation mechanism is disposed on the distal portion of the housing. A torque mechanism is disposed on the proximal portion of the housing. The torque mechanism has a tool engagement element movably coupled to the housing. The tool engagement element has a rotational force applied thereto during implant. The torque mechanism includes a torque limiter that maintains a fixed relation between the tool engagement element and the housing when in an engaged state. The torque limiter changes from the engaged state to a disengaged state when the rotational force exceeds a predetermined torque limit.

A method for hermetically sealing electronic circuitry within a housing of an implantable medical device is provided. The method comprises assembling the housing having an interior cavity, joining a feed-through assembly to the housing, and joining a back-fill member to the feed-through housing. The back fill member has an opening there through communicating with the interior cavity of the housing. The housing is back-filled with an inert gas through the opening in the back-fill member, and the interior cavity is hermetically sealed by closing the opening through the back-fill member with a sealing element. The sealing element and back-fill member are formed of different first and second materials, respectively.

Methods for manufacturing an implantable medical device

In a medical implantable device having a hermetically sealed, radio shielded encapsulations containing an RF circuit therein and having an antenna located outside of the encapsulation, and in a method for connecting the RF circuit to the antenna, at least one hermetical feedthrough connection is provided in the form of at least one conductor passing through a wall portion of the encapsulation in a liquid-tight and gas-tight manner, with the feedthrough being electrically insulated from the encapsulation. At least one connector pin is provided on an RF circuit board, which is resiliently mounted on the RF circuit board. The RF circuit is mounted in the encapsulation so as to cause the connector pin to resiliently engage the conductor and to electrically connect the conductor with the RF circuit board.

Medical implantable device and method for connecting an antenna to the same

An implantable medical device and methods of manufacture are provided for implantation in a body. The device includes a device housing having an interior cavity and electronic circuitry located in the interior cavity of the device housing. The electronic circuitry detects a physiologic condition of the body and delivers a therapy to the body. The device further includes a feed-through assembly having a feed-through housing that is joined to the device housing. The feed-through assembly includes conductors held in the feed-through housing and electronically connected to the electronic circuitry. A back-fill member is joined to the feed-through housing. The back-fill member has an opening there through communicating with the interior cavity of the device housing. A sealing element is hermetically secured in the opening through the back-fill member. The sealing element and back-fill member are formed of different first and second materials, respectively. The second material is generally harder than the first material. For example, the sealing element may constitute a titanium ball configured to be deformed when pressed into the opening in the back-fill member, where the first and second materials constitute titanium and a titanium alloy, respectively. The back-fill member is dimensioned relative to a support tool to permit the back-fill member to self-align during an initial sealing operation by shifting and/or tilting relative to a support tool.

Implantable medical device with improved back-fill member and methods of manufacture thereof

A feedthrough apparatus for a implantable medical device having a casing includes a conductive housing having an outer side, an inner side, and a peripheral surface with a continuous assembly groove therein for mounting on the casing of the implantable medical device. The conductive housing has first and second through bores extending between the outer side and the inner side in spaced apart, generally parallel, relationship. First and second filtered feedthrough assemblies are received, respectively, in the first and second through bores. Each filtered feedthrough assembly includes an insulative terminal, a filter capacitor, and a plurality of lead wires electrically isolated from the conductive housing supported on and extending through the insulative terminal and through the filter capacitor in conductive relation therewith. Also, a backfill port is provided on the conductive housing and has a passageway extending between the inner side and the outer side.
