Disclosed are methods and microfluidic devices for successfully co-encapsulating two or more cells in a high-throughput, high efficiency manner. Cells are organized into two or more ordered streams flowing through separate microchannels of the microfluidic device. Cells in ordered streams are sufficiently spaced such that at a junction of the microfluidic device, single droplets are generated that include exactly one cell from the first ordered stream of cells and at least one cell from the second ordered stream of cells. Single droplets including two or more cells are useful for performing assays (e.g., high throughput cell-cell interaction assays).

The present disclosure provides methods and devices for simultaneous identification of a plurality of target nucleic acid sequences in a single sample chamber that includes an addressable array of nucleic acid probes attached to a solid surface. Addressable signals can be generated and measured, in real-time, upon hybridization of target sequences at the individual probe locations within the array while the temperature of the system is varied. Such generated signals, as a function temperature, can then be used to compute the properties of nucleic acid hybridization at each addressable location which is ultimately utilized to estimate the sequence of the target nucleic acids. In particular, an integrated semiconductor biosensor array device can be used to measure the addressable signals.

Multiplexed analysis of nucleic acid hybridization thermodynamics using integrated arrays

A handheld solid sample pipette device includes a pipette tube with a number of sharpened teeth adapted to pierce solid or substantially solid sample material, the pipette tube adapted to be matingly attached to a device that includes a handle, a plunger, and a piston within a shell of the device. A spring may be positioned to return the plunger to a non-depressed position following depression of the plunger. A sample of the material can be ejected from the handheld device. The handheld device may further include a shear ring apparatus, that in-turn includes a tube portion, a plurality of shear ring teeth, and a knobbed plate for rotating the shear ring. Following insertion of the pipette with sharpened teeth into the sample, the shear ring apparatus is pressed into the sample as well, such that the shear ring tube, which is slidingly engaged about the pipette tube, slides over the pipette tube into the sample. The shear ring teeth pierce the sample, and at a certain point of insertion, the shear ring apparatus is rotated in either or both a clockwise or counter-clockwise manner such that the shear ring teeth sever a portion of the material to be sampled such that the portion remains within the pipette tube, for removal, and analysis.

In some aspects, the method includes switching the magnetic moment(s) of the input magnetic junction from a first state to a second state, applying and then removing magnetic field(s) along the hard axis of the at least one magnetic junction.
