Methods and apparatuses for scheduling and indicating scheduling information in a wireless local area network (WLAN). A station (STA) includes a transceiver configured to receive a header for a protocol data unit and a controller configured to identify common information for a plurality of STAs that are scheduled in the WLAN from a common field in the header and to identify user-specific information for the STA from a user-specific field in the header that follows the common field. An access point (AP) includes a controller configured to include common information for a plurality STAs that are scheduled in the WLAN in a common field in a header of a protocol data unit, and to include user-specific information for the STAs in a user-specific field in the header that follows the common field. The AP also includes a transceiver configured to transmit the protocol data unit including the header.

Efficient signaling and addressing in wireless local area network systems

A method, station, and access point for transmitting in a wireless local area network. A method for operating the station includes receiving a beacon signal from an access point in the wireless local area network. The method also includes identifying from the beacon signal a target transmission time of a trigger frame to be transmitted by the access point for an uplink multi-user transmission. A method for operating the access point includes transmitting, to one or more stations in the wireless local area network, a beacon signal that indicates a target transmission time of a trigger frame to be transmitted by the access point for an uplink multi-user transmission.

An AP includes a controller and a transceiver, the controller configured to generate a NDPA including information indicating STAs to transmit a feedback report, a NDP containing pilots to compute the feedback report, and a TF to trigger transmission of the feedback report from at least one of the STAs, and the transceiver is operably connected to the controller and configured to transmit a channel sounding sequence that includes the NDPA, the NDP, and the TF.

Methods and apparatus for beamforming feedback in wireless systems

A method for operating an access point (AP) in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The method comprises identifying a bandwidth of an orthogonal frequency division multiple access physical protocol data unit (OFDMA PPDU) by at least one of a primary channel or at least one secondary channel, and nulling a plurality of tones of OFDMA PPDU for the at least one secondary channel sensed busy. The method further comprises transmitting, to a station (STA), a bandwidth signaling sub-field in high efficiency signal-A (HE-SIG-A) field included in a high efficiency multi-user PPDU (HE MU PPDU) indicating availability of at least one content channel, wherein the at least one content channel of high efficiency signal-B (HE-SIG-B) field on the downlink signal including a primary channel and one or more secondary channels that comprise a plurality of OFDMA PPDUs.

Methods to enable efficient wideband operations in local area networks using OFDMA

A method of establishing a data transmission bandwidth between a transmitting node and a receiving node is provided. Methods and apparatus for uplink control channel multiplexing in beamformed cellular systems

To reduce the duration of a cyclic prefix used for a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) communications channel, delay spread variations for different transmit/receive beam pair combination is estimated and used for fast beam switching and to support single user MIMO (SU-MIMO) even when the CP difference between two beams is large. Beam switching reference signals are employed to estimate delay spread exceeding current CP, and to support beam switching. CP covering sub-clusters within clusters for the MIMO channel are exploited to reduce the CP requirement and improve efficiency. Any one of a number of different CP durations may be selected for each different mobile station, using one of a finite set of subframe configurations for which the CP durations of different symbol locations within the subframe are predefined. Dynamically switching subframe configurations by the system accommodates high mobility.

Methods and apparatus for cyclic prefix reduction in MMwave mobile communication systems

A method includes configuring a first sounding channel to be an uplink sounding slot. The uplink sounding slot has at least one OFDM symbol in an uplink sub-frame in order to carry UL-SRSs corresponding to at least one transmit beam of a first set of transmit beams in a first sounding channel set of sub-bands. The first sounding channel set of sub-bands includes sub-bands that cover a first data bandwidth. The method includes transmitting, to an MS, a first UL sounding configuration message that sets a sounding sub-band bitmap value to a maximum specifiable value and indicates UL-SRS placement in the first sounding channel set of sub-bands. The method includes, receiving through the first sounding channel set of sub-bands from the MS, the UL-SRSs corresponding to at least the one transmit beam of the first set of transmit beams for channel estimation over the first data bandwidth.

Methods and apparatus for sounding channel operation in millimeter wave communication systems

Methods and apparatus for sending and receiving mobile station (MS) specific channel state indication reference symbols (CSI-RS) is provided. A common CSI-RS is sent from a base station (BS) and is received by an MS. First feedback is sent to the BS from the MS based on the common CSI-RS. A configuration of an MS-specific CSI-RS is sent from the BS and received by the MS. An MS specific CSI-RS is sent from the BS and is received by the MS. Second feedback is sent to the BS from the MS based on the MS specific CSI-RS.

Method and apparatus to support channel refinement and multi-stream transmission in millimeter wave systems

Time, frequency and spatial processing parameters for communications between a base station and a mobile station are selected by transmitting synchronization signals in multiple slices of a wireless transmission sector for the base station, and receiving feedback from the mobile station of at least one preferred slice of the multiple slices. In response to selection of one of the slices as an active slice for communications between the base station and the mobile station, reference signals are transmitted in the selected active slice using a corresponding selected precoder and/or codebook. The mobile station estimates and feeds back channel state information (CSI) based on those reference signals, and the CSI is then employed to determine communication parameters for communications between the base station and mobile station that are specific to the mobile station.

Hierarchical channel sounding and channel state information feedback in massive MIMO systems

Base station (BS) and mobile station (MS) methods and apparatus are provided. The BS configures an uplink sounding channel made up of at least one OFDM symbol in an uplink slot. The BS signals to the MS use and location of different configurations of the uplink sounding channel via a system configuration broadcast message. The uplink sounding channel comprises OFDM symbols where one or more of a subcarrier spacing and a sampling frequency is different from that of OFDM symbol used for data transmission. Each OFDM symbol comprises a sounding reference symbol corresponding to at least one transmit beam and is received by at least one receive beam to form at least one transmit-receive beam pair. The at least one transmit-receive beam pair for UL-SRS in different OFDM symbols are different. The sounding channel configuration is based on information received from neighboring BSs via inter-BS coordination over a pre-defined interface.

Methods and apparatus for channel sounding in beamformed massive MIMO systems

A method, system and computer-readable medium for providing feedback effects for an image. The method includes identifying one or more features in an area of the image. The method also includes mapping the one or more identified features to at least one of multiple modalities of feedback effects. Additionally, the method includes generating parameters for feedback effect output and storing the generated parameters in association with the image such that, in response to coordinates of an input of a user corresponding to the area of the image, a user interface associated with the image is configured to provide at least one of the multiple modalities of feedback effects to the user. The multiple modalities of feedback effects include one or more visual feedback effects, one or more haptic feedback effects and one or more audio feedback effects.

System and method for perceiving images with multimodal feedback

A mobile station performs a method for paging configuration in a wireless network. The method includes transmitting, to a base station, a parameter M representing a number of receiving (RX) beam instances at the mobile station in idle mode for the mobile station to finish one round of beam steering. The method also includes determining a timing for receiving a paging message from the base station, the timing being a function of the parameter M, the paging message comprising a mobile station identifier. The method further includes receiving the paging message from the base station based on the determined timing.
