A composition includes a 1,8-naphthalimide fluorophore, a spacer bound to the 1,8-naphthalimide fluorophore and a thiazole-based receptor having an unsaturated heterocycle ring bound to the spacer. The composition may be employed as a chemosensor configured to capture an ion in a fluid medium. The chemosensor may further be incorporated into a sensing device configured to detect the ion and calculate a concentration of the ion in the fluid medium.

Sensing devices and chemosensors and compositions relating thereto

A sensing device including film sensor, a second sensor, and a controller. The film sensor includes a receptor capturing an intended analyte and an unintended analyte in a fluid medium to generate a film sensor signal. The receptor has a receptor cross-sensitivity to the unintended analyte. The second sensor contacts the fluid medium including the intended analyte and the unintended analyte to generate a second sensor signal. The second sensor has a second cross-sensitivity to the unintended analyte different than the receptor cross-sensitivity to the unintended analyte. The controller is programmed to determine a concentration of the intended analyte in the fluid medium in response to the film sensor signal, the receptor cross-sensitivity, the second sensor signal, and the second cross-sensitivity.

Sensing device compensating for cross-sensitivity to analytes

A sensing device includes a first sensor configured to capture a first analyte in a fluid medium and to generate a first signal in response to capturing the first analyte. The sensing device also includes a second sensor configured to capture a second analyte in the fluid medium and to generate a second signal in response to capturing the second analyte, where the second analyte is different from the first analyte. The sensing device further includes a detector configured to collect the first and second signals to provide a total signal and to calculate a total concentration of the first and the second analyte in the fluid medium based on the total signal.

Sensing devices

A sensor system includes a sensor and an optical source. The sensor has a receptor configured to bind to a chemical species. A spacer is bound to the receptor, and a fluorophore is bound to the spacer. The optical source is configured to irradiate the sensor to dissociate the chemical species from the receptor. The optical source can be infrared light, microwave or radio wave. The sensor system optionally includes a photodetector configured to determine an amount of the chemical species by measuring fluorescence when the optical source irradiates the sensor.
