Disclosed herein is a photosensitive material for use in electrophotography which comprises a support, a photoconductive layer, and an adhesive layer consisting mainly of chloroprene rubber and/or nitrile rubber, said adhesive layer being interposed in between said support and photoconductive layer. A photosensitive material of this type manifests a satisfactory adhesion between the support and the photoconductive layer as well as excellent flexibility, and inasmuch as said adhesive layer will not interfere with the leaking of charge, it always renders a clear-cut copied image.

The developing process is for use in an electrophotographic copying machine of the wet developing type in which a developing electrode arrangement is maintained in intimately opposing relationship with a cyclically moving endless photosensitive surface carrying an electrostatic latent image on a circumferential surface portion thereof. The remaining portion of the endless surface is charged at a certain potential having a polarity opposite to that of the latent image. A potential on the electrode arrangement is maintained below a predetermined value during the time the latent image carrying surface portion is passing thereby, to achieve correct development, whereas it is charged by a bias potential, lower than the potential previously applied, while the remaining surface portion passes thereby during the remaining time for one cycle of the endless surface. Thereby an accumulation of toner on the electrode arrangement is prevented and hence fogging of the developed image caused thereby is also prevented.

Developing process for electrophotography

To remove an old photoresponsive or photoconductive selenium layer from a drum of a copy machine as preparation for the vacuum evaporation of a new photoresponsive layer thereonto, the drum is immersed in a hot fluid such as water, steam or liquid or vapor trichloroethylene or perchloroethylene. Due to the softening of the photoresponsive layer and the difference between the coefficients of thermal expansion of the photoresponsive layer and the drum material, the photoresponsive layer may be subsequently easily physically removed from the drum.
