A lens according to the disclosure includes a dielectric having a first surface and a second surface that is spaced from the first surface and that faces the first surface in a direction of a reference axis intersecting the first surface. The dielectric has an equivalent relative dielectric constant that decreases in a direction from the reference axis toward outer circumferences of the first surface and the second surface.

Radio wave lens antenna device

A multi-beam lens antenna for individual communication with communication satellites spaced at small elongations. The multi-beam antenna comprises primary feedseach of which is composed of a waveguide having an opening at the end and a dielectric bodydisposed at the end, a hemispherical Luneberg radio wave lens, and a reflective plate attached to the circular opening of the hemispherical radio wave lens and adapted for reflecting a radio wave incoming from the sky or emitted toward a target. The waveguides are preferably rectangular waveguidesrather than circular waveguides. The dielectric bodiesare preferably tapered.

A small, lightweight radio wave lens antenna device is proposed in which freedom of selection of the installation place is high, which can be compactly installed e.g. on a wall surface, and in which restriction of installation space is relaxed. A hemispherical Luneberg lensis mounted on a reflecting plate, antenna elementsare supported by a retainer, they are integrally combined, and a mounting portionis provided for mounting the reflecting plateto a installation portion such as a wall surface with the reflecting platesubstantially vertical. The reflecting platemay have such a shape that an area other than the area for reflecting radio waves from directions in a predetermined range is removed, preferably in the shape of a fan. The hemispherical Luneberg lensis mounted on the reflecting plate, offset toward the small arcuate edgeof the fan. Further, a support armstraddling the lensis provided in the antenna device having a hemispherical Luneberg lensprovided on the reflecting plate, antenna elementsare mounted on an arcuate element retaining portionof the support armalong the spherical surface of the lenswith an angle adjustorfor adjusting the elevation at intervals corresponding to the distances between geostationary satellites by means of mounting means. Thereafter, the support armis pivoted to a predetermined angular position so that the antenna elements can be comprehensively positioned.
