An electronic fuel injector capable of supplying fuel in a stable manner is provided by employing a swirler, which is manufactured at a lower cost and has durability, and by ensuring superior wear resistance of the swirler and a valve member provided on a movable part, which is put into frictional contact with the swirler. The electronic fuel injector comprises a movable part, a valve member, a valve seat, a swirler, a stopper, a stator core, a casing, a spring, and an electromagnetic coil. A valve member is provided at a fore end of the movable part. The swirler serves not only to swirl fuel, but also to guide movement of the valve member provided at the fore end of the movable part. The swirler is formed of a powder sintered compact of martensitic stainless steel having corrosion resistance and wear resistance.

Electronic fuel injector

Disclosed herein is a fuel pump for an inter-cylinder direct fuel injection apparatus, in which occurrence of corrosion and attrition caused by cavitation or erosion can be suppressed, their resistance against the environment can be improved, and an excellent lifetime can be achieved in the case of the use of an aluminum material even if the temperature reaches as high as 100&#xb0; C. or higher and the pressure reaches as high as 7 to 12 MPa. In the fuel pump for an inter-cylinder direct fuel injection apparatus, made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, a coating film plated with Ni&#x2014;P or a Ni&#x2014;P based material is formed by electroless plating.

A fuel pump, of which sliding mechanism parts in its fuel chamber have good wear resistance under a severe environment, and a direct fuel injection engine using the fuel pump are provided. In a fuel pump for pressurizing and delivering fuel to a fuel injector of a vehicle engine, at least one of sliding surfaces of a slant plate, a slipper and a plunger sliding in a lubricating oil and at least one of sliding surfaces of sliding members of a plunger and a cylinder contacting with and sliding on each other through the fuel are formed of a hardened layer composed of any one of a nitrided layer, a carburization quenched layer and a carbonitrided layer, or coated with a high corrosion resistant and hard metal compound layer over the hardened layer.

In an electronic fuel injector used in a combustion system using gas fuel, the present invention suppresses wearing of worn portions to make control of stable supply of gas fuel possible by forming a surface reforming layer (nitrided layer etc.) having wear resistance on a surface of a structural material of worn portions of the electronic fuel injector.

A highly reliable connection structure of a bundle of more than two coil leading-out wires and a wire bundling terminal is provided by contacting and fixing at least a part of a circumferential surface of each of the coil leading-out wires to an inside wall of the wire bundling terminal. Disclosed is an electromagnetic type fuel injection valve including a stator iron core, an electromagnetic coil concentric with the stator iron core, a casing formed of a magnetizable material and accommodating therein the stator iron core and the electromagnetic coil, a moving body provided at its end with a valve body, a stopper for the moving body, a valve seat opposite to the stopper with the moving body interposed therebetween and a spring engaged with an end of the moving body for biasing the same, the moving body being adapted to reciprocate between the valve seat and the stator iron core under the magnetizing force of the electromagnetic coil and the biasing force of the spring, and having an armature adapted to be absorbed by the stator iron core and a rod contiguous with the valve body, the armature and the rod being formed of the same material so as to be integral with each other, a guide portion of the rod and a portion of the moving body adapted to abut against the stopper being subjected to a hardening treatment, and the electromagnetic absorbing force of the armature being increased by reducing the leak magnetic flux leaking through the rod.

An air/fuel ratio (A/F) sensor for detecting the A/F over a wide range covering a lean region and a rich region which are partitioned by the stoichiometric A/F comprises a solid electrolyte made of an oxygen ion conductive metal oxide, first and second electrodes sandwiching the solid electrolyte and being operable by a predetermined voltage applied thereacross to ionize oxygen near the solid electrolyte and diffuse oxygen ions into the solid electrolyte, and a gas diffusion layer in the form of a porous sintered layer covering the second electrode and made of electrically insulative metal oxide fine particles having a mean particulate size of 1 .mu.m or less so that oxygen or molecules of other gas components in the exhaust gas can move through pores of the gas diffusion layer.

Sensor for measurement of air/fuel ratio and method of manufacturing

A high heat resisting wire (5) is made of amide-imide-coated wire, and a conductive terminal (4) is made of Cu or Cu alloy such as brass P-containing solder, BAg-1, BAg-2 are used as joining assistant (4). A high heat resisting wire (5) is made of an amide-imide-coated wire and a conductive terminal (3) is made of soft steel or SUS steel, a silver-solder is used as joining assistant (4). A metallic joining conductive layer (8) is formed between a Cu core wire (7) of the insulated wire (5) and the conductive terminal (3 ) with the joining assistant (4). The insulated wire (5) is joined to the conductive terminal (3) and a joined body having high joining strength can be obtained.

A gaseous compound of a metal species or a semi-metal species is reacted with another gaseous substance capable of reacting with the gaseous compound of the metal or semi-metal species under a total pressure of not more than 10 Torr, where the partial pressure of the gaseous compound is not more than that of the gaseous substance, the reacting being carried out by the glow discharge generated between an electroconductive workpiece connected to a cathode, at least one secondary cathode provided at a position near enough to the workpiece to generate interactions of glow discharge between at least selected portions of the workpiece and the at least one secondary cathode, and an anode, thereby coating the at least selected portions of the workpiece with the resulting reaction product containing the metal or semi-metal species.

Method for coating by glow discharge

A glow discharge surface treatment process wherein only the selected portions of a workpiece adjacent to or surrounded by the associated secondary electrodes are surface-treated so as to provide different treatments on the workpiece according to the position of the secondary electrodes. The each secondary electrode is provided close to at least a portion of the workpiece, and the workpiece and the associated secondary electrode are both connected to the cathode. When a voltage is applied between the cathode and the wall of the container in the treatment apparatus which forms the anode, mutual interference effect (which is referred to as a hollow cathode effect) of negative glow discharges is established between the workpiece and the associated secondary electrode so as to accelerate the heat treatment for the selected portion of the workpiece surrounded by the secondary electrode. The gas pressure in the container is varied to control the hollow cathode effect. In the treatment process of the present invention, the workpiece is thermally treated so as to provide differently treated portions therein.
