An assistant combustion agent for use in a high-frequency combustion furnace is characterized by a blending together of tungsten powder and tin powder. The blended mixture is then molded into a form and a plurality of the molded forms are added to a sample in the furnace. The ratio of tungsten powder to tin powder is between about 80:20 to 60:40.

A heat melting type gas extraction apparatus is employed to measure oxygen in a silicon sample. A double graphite crucible is first heated, in the absence of the sample or a flux metal, to extract oxygen therein. The flux metal is then added to the crucible and heated to extract oxygen therein. The sample is then added, melted, and heated to produce a sample gas for analysis.

An apparatus for analyzing elements in metal containing compositions which includes a combustion furnace for combusting a metal composition to be analyzed, a combustion gas feed pipe for feeding combustion gas into the furnace toward the metal composition for promoting combustion thereof, a gas analyzer for analyzing the combusted gas obtained by the combustion of the metal composition in the furnace, a combusted gas conduit between the furnace and the gas analyzer, a carrier gas feed conduit for directing a carrier gas into the furnace so as to carry the combusted gas from the furnace to the gas analyzer through the combusted gas conduit, and structure for changing the rate at which the combustion gas is fed to the metal composition.

Apparatus for analyzing elements contained in metal compositions

A furnace for extracting gaseous components from material samples includes upper and lower electrodes mounted to press therebetween a crucible of electrically conductive material. An electric current is applied to the electrodes, thereby causing heating of the material sample contained in the crucible, with the result that gaseous components are extracted from the material sample. At least one of the upper and lower electrodes is rotated about a vertical axis, thereby causing surfaces of the crucible contacting respective surfaces of the upper and lower electrodes to rotate under friction against such respective surfaces, thereby improving electrical contact between the crucible and the electrodes.

Extractive furnace for extracting gaseous components from material

An apparatus for analyzing oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen which are contained in metals. The apparatus includes a graphite crucible which has a sample therein and which is heated to generate a gaseous mixture of CO, N.sub.2 and H.sub.2. An oxidizer is used to oxidize the CO and H.sub.2 into CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O, respectively. The apparatus further includes a thermal conductivity detecting means for detecting CO.sub.2, N.sub.2 and H.sub.2 O, coming from a first gas-chromatographic column which is used for separating H.sub.2 O from the CO.sub.2 and N.sub.2. A second gas-chromatographic column is used for separating CO.sub.2 from N.sub.2. A passage change valve is used for back-flushing the first column. Helium is preferably used as the carrier gas. The apparatus is simple and operates quickly because the three components, O, N and H, can be measured by using a single carrier gas He and a single sample and thus, only a single measurement operation is required.
