In an escalator, at least one of a plurality of staircase steps connected in an endless manner and supported by a body frame is made for a wheel chair loading staircase step. The staircase step comprises an upwardly movable main tread board, a sub-tread board supported by the main tread board, a lifting mechanism for lifting the main tread board, an electric drive unit for driving the lifting mechanism and a widening mechanism for automatically widening the sub-tread board by means of the electric drive unit.

Escalator

A balustrade for use with passenger conveyors including a second deck member bent to assume an arcuate shape at landings, and having a U-shaped cross-section adapted to be opened facing the center of the arc, and deformation preventing strips formed by bending the second deck member adjacent its opening which defines an inner periphery of the arcuate-shaped sections of the second deck member.

Passenger conveyor balustrade

A passenger conveyor has a plurality of steps each including a treadboard provided with a number of cleats and grooves defined therebetween, the cleats being adapted to mesh with teeth of a comb-like plate at each terminal of the conveyor, and a frame to which the treadboard is secured; handrails adapted to run in synchronism with the travel of the steps; handrail frames disposed beneath the handrails; and balustrade panels. The treadboard is formed of a corrugated stainless steel sheet and is reinforced by at least one reinforcement member attached to the underside of the treadboard. The handrail frame is formed by first and second members both made of stainless steel sheets and having U-shaped cross-sections. The first and second members are welded together in back-to-back relationship so that the open side of the first member is directed toward the handrail while the open side of the second member is directed toward the balustrade panel.

Passenger conveyor

A balustrade for use with passenger conveyors including a deck member bent to assume an arcuate shape at landings and having a U-shaped cross-section with its opening facing the center of the arc, said deck member being formed adjacent the opposite ends of said first arcuate-shaped portion with second arcuate-shaped portions of larger radius of curvature than that of the first arcuate-shaped portion, said deck member being inwardly folded down about the opening of the arcuate-shaped portions to provide deformation preventing strips.

A conveyor, in which continuous flights of steps in an endless form are guided by means of guide tracks, and a pair of handrails in an endless form are provided on each side of the flights of steps thereabove and moved at the same speed and in the same direction as those of the flights of steps. This conveyor includes: a pair of main frame bodies each consisting of a vertical member which is formed integrally with upper and lower horizontal members which extend from the top and bottom edges thereof in the horizontal direction, respectively; and transverse beams interconnecting the upper horizontal members of the aforesaid main frame bodies, and connecting members interconnecting the lower horizontal members of the main frame bodies at suitable points along the length of a conveyor. The pair of main frame bodies are positioned on each side of the aforesaid endless flights of steps, respectively.

An escalator comprising steps linked in an endless belt, front wheels and rear wheels for each of the steps supporting the step through a front shaft and a rear shaft respectively, guide rails for guiding the rolling movement of the front and rear wheels respectively, and projections extending axially of the rear shaft for each of the steps and projection upthrust rails mounted in a rear wheel portion of each of the steps, each of the projection upthrust rails being arranged in a manner to be juxtaposed against one of the projections and adapted to be brought into engagement with the projection to prevent an inadvertent pivotal upward movement of the step when this tendency occurs, whereby the accident of the shoes of passengers and other objects being caught in a riser portion of the step due to an inadvertent pivotal upward movement of the step can be avoided.

Escalator with step levelers

A driving system for moving paths or escalators which use an endles chain adapted to be circulated between a path for transporting passengers, comprising a first and a second sprocket disposed at one end portion and substantially middle portion of the path, respectively, a first and a second induction motor coupled respectively to the first and second sprockets and each having the same rating output the sum of which is selected to be substantially equal to a maximum capacity of the system, an induction coupling interposed between the second sprocket and the second induction motor, means for detecting a current flow through the first induction motor, means for setting a reference value, and a thyristor amplifier for exciting the induction coupling in response to an excess developed when an output of the detecting means exceeds the reference value.
