A multi-window system in multi-window environment includes a CPU for executing an application program for a window system and an application program for a non-window system for producing a display using the whole display screen, a standard-resolution display hardware for the non-window system, a high-resolution display system for the window system, and a window display component for displaying a picture of the application program for the non-window system corresponding to the standard-resolution hardware in window. High-speed graphics display of an existing application program can be attained in the window. The entire display picture of the existing application program can be displayed in the window at one time and the application program can be operated without scrolling thereof.

A graphic display method and apparatus including a plurality of virtual device coordinate systems independent of a coordinate system of a physical screen in which a graphic image to be displayed is independently drawn in a virtual device space of the corresponding virtual device coordinate system so as to map a specified area of each virtual device space onto the virtual screen at a specified position, thereby displaying a specified area of a virtual memory in a physical screen. Furthermore, code data of characters and graphics and image data are written in a logical screen buffer as drawing elements to be located at arbitrary positions of the logical screen such that a unit, specifying an area which is located at an arbitrary position and which has an arbitrary size in the logical screen causes the combining and editing of character, graphic, and image data already written in the specified area of the logical screen and the generating, as a result, of new image data. The new image data is written as a drawing element of the virtual screen in the virtual screen buffer at a specified arbitrary position.

Method and apparatus for display control

An address bus control system is provided of the type in which a controller including a central processing unit is connected through an address bus and a data bus to hardware modules which control equipment to be controlled. An address space defined by an address bus includes a discrimination space for discriminating the attribute of the hardware module and a function space for allocating and clearing an address space for a function interface of the hardware module. The attribute of a hardware module connected to a connector having a corresponding address is recognized using the discrimination space. The function interface of each hardware module is assigned a space within the function space in accordance with the contents of the discrimination space in concern, or the assigned space is canceled. An address of the function space can be allocated to only a necessary function interface, merely by connecting the hardware module to the connector, allowing to set up hardware modules equal to or larger than the total address space.

Address bus control system

A display device which has a zooming function and is required to display a logical screen larger in size than a physical screen, is operated in the following manner. When an action for indicating a zooming command is taken, a first rectangular frame similar in shape to the logical screen, a second rectangular frame similar in shape to a logical area which is now displayed on the physical screen, and a third rectangular frame similar in shape to a logical area which is to be subjected to a zooming operation, are all displayed on the physical screen, and moreover the third rectangular frame can be moved to a desired position by means of a coordinate input device such as a mouse. Hence, the zooming operation and a desired logical area corresponding to the third rectangular frame placed at the desired position can be specified by a one-touch operation. Thus, the operation procedure becomes simple, and the operability of the display device is improved.

Control method of zooming screen

In a transfer data screen buffer added to a multi-window display, a command stream for displaying segments to be displayed and superposed over the multi-window display is stored. By the execution of the command stream, the display data developed into a bit map undergoes exclusive OR operation bit by bit with the bit-map developed data of the multi-window data. The operation result is fed back to the display screen bit map memory to be displayed.

Multi-screen display control system and its method

A display screen control method for a display device capable of supporting a logical screen larger in size than its physical screen is provided. This method enables a desired area to be displayed on the display device by a single operation. According to the method, a first rectangle similar to the logical screen is displayed on the physical screen, a second rectangle similar to the window area which was displayed within a view port in the physical screen is displayed in the first rectangle. The second rectangle is moved to a desired position within the first rectangle by a position indicating means such as a pointing device whereby the area the operator wishes to view is displayed in one quick operation.
