An image forming apparatus includes a conveyor configured to convey a printing medium, an image forming station that forms an image on the printing medium, a fixing device including a fixing roller, a pressurizing roller positioned opposite the fixing roller, and a heater configured to heat a paper passing region between the fixing roller and the pressurizing roller, a temperature sensor that detects a temperature of a first region, the first region including an end of the paper passing region in a paper width direction, and a controller. The controller is configured to lower a set temperature of the heater in response to a determination that (a) a determination condition is satisfied, the determination condition relating to a start of the conveyance of the printing medium to the fixing device by the conveyor and (b) the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is higher than a threshold temperature.

Image forming apparatus

According to one embodiment, a fixing device includes a heating rotator to contact a medium, such as a sheet of paper, on which a toner image has been disposed. A heater is inside the heating rotator to heat the medium. A pressurizing rotator is configured to press against the heating rotator to form a nip through which the medium passes. A controller is configured to drive the heater to heat the heating rotator to a target temperature. The controller is configured to set the target temperature according to a length of a standby time between an end of a first image forming process to a start of a second image forming process after the first image forming process.

Fixing device, image forming apparatus, and method

In accordance with an embodiment, an image forming apparatus comprises a first cassette configured to accommodate a first sheet; a second cassette configured to accommodate a second sheet different from the first sheet in at least one of a size and an orientation; a controller configured to perform control to feed the first sheet to a conveyance path from the first cassette and feed the second sheet to the conveyance path from the second cassette to insert the second sheet between respective copies if a printing instruction for a plurality of copies is issued; and a sheet discharge section configured to stack the first sheet and the second sheet.

Image forming apparatus and sheet conveyance method

A fixing apparatus comprises a rotating body that conveys a sheet in a first direction, first and second heating sections, and first and second temperature detectors. In the first heating section, a calorific value per unit length in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction, at the center of the first heating section is larger than that at both ends thereof. In the second heating section, a calorific value per unit length in the second direction, at both ends of the second heating section is larger than that at the center thereof. The first temperature detector is configured to detect a temperature of a central part of a heating area of the rotating body heated by one of the first and second heating sections. The second temperature detector is configured to detect a temperature outside of the heating area of the rotating body.

In accordance with an embodiment, a character recognition apparatus comprises a decolorization control section configured to carry out a decolorization processing for a sheet; an image reading control section configured to carry out an image reading processing for the sheet to which the decolorization processing is carried out; and a character recognition processing section configured to carry out a character recognition processing for a decolorized image read through the reading processing after the decolorization processing is carried out or for a generated image generated according to the decolorized image.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a heating device that includes a heating source, a non-contact thermistor, a contact thermistor and a control unit. The control unit is configured to control the heating source on the basis of the detected temperature of the non-contact thermistor and the detected temperature of the contact thermistor and control the heating member to a predetermined temperature. The control unit performs the temperature control using the detected temperature of the contact thermistor for temperature control from startup time to a target temperature and using the detected temperature of the non-contact thermistor if the temperature exceeds the target temperature.

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit including an image carrier, a developing device for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on the image carrier using a developing agent containing a decolorable toner and forming a developing agent image, and a transferring and conveying mechanism and a fixing and decolorizing mechanism. In a decolorizing mode, the image carrier and a transfer member are separated in the transferring and conveying mechanism to secure a conveying path to prevent a transfer material from coming into contact with the image carrier. A decolorable image is decolorized at second temperature higher than first temperature in the fixing and decolorizing mechanism.

A fuser includes: a heat generating section including a heat generating layer and configured to rotationally travel; an induction-current generating section provided around the exterior of the heat generating section and including an exciting coil and an external ferrite core that covers the outer circumference of the exciting coil; an opposing section set in contact with the outer circumferential surface of the heat generating section; and an internal ferrite core arranged inside of the heat generating section in a position opposed to the exciting coil, a first center angle connecting both edges of the internal ferrite core and a rotation center of the heat generating section being larger than a second center angle connecting both edges of the external ferrite core and the rotation center of the heat generating section.
