A post-processing apparatus includes a side edge part removing portion that removes a side edge part from a sheet; a side edge part housing portion that houses the removed side edge part and is able to be pulled out from an apparatus body; a guide plate that is inclined in a direction intersecting with a moving direction of the side edge part and guides the removed side edge part along the moving direction to the housing portion; and a second guide plate that is arranged between the housing portion and the guide plate, and is transformable into a first form having substantially mountain-shaped inclined surfaces in which both end portions of the second guide plate along the moving direction are lower than a center portion thereof, and a second form having substantially valley-shaped inclined surfaces in which both the end portions are higher than the center portion.

A liquid droplet discharge unit for discharging liquid droplets from nozzles is disclosed, and this liquid droplet discharge unit is constructed in such a way that plural nozzles are communicated with plural pressure chambers in which liquid is filled, the volumes of the respective pressure chambers are changed by plural drive elements to cause liquid droplets to be discharged from the respective nozzles. Further, one heat pipe, which is in thermal communication with the drive elements and moves heat to one end in the axial direction, is provided. A liquid droplet discharge apparatus equipped with such a liquid droplet discharge unit is also disclosed.

A liquid droplet ejecting unit is disclosed wherein plural liquid droplet ejecting sub-units are provided which are arrayed in a direction substantially perpendicular to a conveying direction of a recording medium. Further, plural valves are provided which connect the respective liquid droplet ejecting sub-units and a liquid feed path. The valves comprise a valve body having an inlet port and an outlet port, and a floating member. The floating member is larger in radius than the inlet port and smaller in radius than the outlet port and has a lower specific gravity that the liquid. Thus, the floating member is floated in the liquid in the valve body and capable of closing the inlet port. An image forming apparatus using such a liquid droplet ejecting unit is also disclosed.

A refillable fluid reservoir for a fluid ejection head, including a fluid reservoir having top, bottom and side walls defining an interior volume for having fluid; a venting port provided on one of the reservoir walls; and a fluid inlet port provided on one of the reservoir walls, the venting port and the fluid inlet port being located at substantially the same vertical level to increase volumetric efficiency and reduce staining.

Systems, methods and structure for maximizing efficiency of refillable fluid ejection head

A port for replenishing ink on the side of a main ink tank advances and the nose or tip end of a main body of a pipe enters an ink replenishing opening on the side of a sub ink tank. When a valve body in the main body of the pipe and a valve on side of the sub ink tank are pressed with each other, a communicating port is opened by the valve body. When the main body of the pipe is further inserted into the ink replenishing opening, the valve is separated from a projection portion of a gasket, and a space therebetween starts to be widened. At this stage, as a lip portion of the gasket is not in contact with an outer peripheral portion of the main body of the pipe, an ink channel is opened to the atmosphere, the ink which is remained in or adhered to the outer peripheral portion of the main body of the pipe or an inside of the ink replenishing opening is absorbed into the sub ink tank dye ti a negative pressure in the sub ink tank. Namely, the present invention provides an ink replenishing device which can reliably prevent ink dirt from being caused by ink replenishing and an ink jet recording apparatus which is provided with the ink replenishing device.

An ink supply device is provided in correspondence with a recording head unit. The recording head unit has a recording head that ejects ink drops onto a recording medium on the basis of image information. Additionally the recording head unit has a sub ink tank provided with an air communication hole. The ink supply device includes an ink supply unit that supplies ink to the sub ink tank by reducing pressure on the inside of the sub ink tank through a pressure reduction part. A sealing part at least implements sealing of the air communication hole while the ink supply unit is reducing the pressure inside the sub ink tank.

A fluid feed pump which prevents fluid from leaking or flowing back from a discharging side section into a suction side section when fluid sucked into the pump from the suction side section is to be fed into the discharging side section is disclosed. When a piston in a cylinder moves in a sucking/discharging direction, fluid flows into an inlet port side section in the inside of the cylinder through an inlet port while the inlet port side section and an outlet port side section of the inside of the cylinder are separated in an axial direction by a tubular enclosing member. Thereupon, since a lower portion of the tubular enclosing member is expanded in a radial direction to contact an outer circumferential face thereof in a water-tight condition with the inner face of the cylinder, the inlet and outlet port side sections of the cylinder are isolated in a high sealing condition from each other. Since the piston moves in the sucking/discharging direction while the inside of the cylinder is in the condition wherein the inlet and port side sections thereof are isolated from each other, fluid in the outlet port side section in the inside of the cylinder does not flow into the inlet port side section.
