A guide wire includes a wire body having a first wire disposed at a distal end and a second wire joined to a proximal end of the first wire at a joint by welding. The joint is curved. In the joint, at least one component (e.g., Ti) of the material of the first wire decreases toward the proximal end and at least one component (e.g., Fe) of the material of the second wire decreases toward the distal end. When a tensile test is conducted on a region of the wire body including the joint, the region of the wire body has, in a tensile load and elongation diagram, an elastic section extending substantially straight upwardly to the right, a yield section extending substantially horizontally or upwardly to the right from the elastic section, and a substantially straight section extending upwardly to the right from the yield section.

Guide wire

According to one aspect, an interventional medical device includes a first wire disposed at a distal end and made of an alloy containing Ti and a transition metal other than Ti and Cr, and a second wire disposed at a proximal end of the first wire and made of an alloy containing Cr and a transition metal other than Cr and Ti. The device may include the first wire and the second wire being brazed to each other by a brazing material. The brazing material contains a metal whose ionization tendency is more basic than Ti and Cr. The brazing material is preferably an Ag&#x2014;Mg alloy or an Ni&#x2014;Mg alloy, and preferably has a composition near the eutectic point.

Interventional medical device

A guide wire includes a wire body having a first wire disposed at a distal end thereof and a second wire joined to a proximal end of the first wire. The first wire and the second wire are preferably joined to each other by welding, providing a layer joint therebetween. The joint is of a curved shape, particularly a convex curved shape that is convex toward the proximal end of the wire body. In the joint, at least one component (e.g., Ti) of the material of the first wire decreases toward the proximal end and at least one component (e.g., Fe) of the material of the second wire decreases toward the distal end. When a tensile test is conducted on a region of the wire body including the joint, the region of the wire body has, in a tensile load and elongation diagram, an elastic section extending substantially straight upwardly to the right, a yield section extending substantially horizontally or upwardly to the right from the elastic section, and a substantially straight section extending upwardly to the right from the yield section. This region of the wire body possesses characteristics such that the region is fracturable near a terminal end of the straight section at a fracture position on other than the joint.

An intermediate member is disposed between a first member made of a first metal material and a second member made of a second metal material having a different composition from that of the first metal material. The intermediate member is welded to the first member and the second member to connect the first member and the second member to each other. The intermediate member contains at least one metal component, wherein the metal component is Pd, Pt, Rb, Ir or Ta.

A guide wire includes an elongated flexible wire body and a tubular member disposed so as to cover the outer periphery of a portion of the wire body on the distal end side. The tubular member includes a lamination portion having an inner layer and an outer layer made of a resin material, and a reinforcing member disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer and formed by winding a wire material spirally. The reinforcing member reinforces the lamination portion.

A guide wire includes a distal end side portion formed of a first metallic material, a proximal end side portion formed of a second metallic material higher in rigidity than the first metallic material, and an intermediate portion provided between the distal end side portion and the proximal end side portion and formed of a mixture of the first metallic material and the second metallic material. The intermediate portion includes a gradient physical property portion in which the content of the second metallic material increases from the distal end side toward the proximal end side.

A guide wire includes a distal end portion and a main body portion, wherein the main body portion includes a center layer formed of a first material, a surface layer formed of a second material, and an intermediate layer formed of a mixture of the first material and the second material.
