A navigation system includes: an angular velocity sensorfor detecting a change in an advancement direction of a vehicle; a vehicle azimuth calculation unitfor calculating a vehicle azimuth on the basis of angular velocity sensor information obtained from the angular velocity sensor; an on-board camerafor shooting a periphery of the vehicle; an image recognition unitfor recognizing an image obtained from the on-board camera; and an offset voltage correction unitfor performing a drift correction on the angular velocity sensor in accordance with an angle error between the vehicle azimuth calculated by the vehicle azimuth calculation unit and a vehicle azimuth determined from a white line on a road recognized by the image recognition unit.

Navigation system

A navigation device includes: an along-route scroll mode determining unitfor determining whether or not a cursor on a screen is placed on a guidance route; a thick line highlight processing unitfor, when the cursor is placed on the guidance route, making a transition to an along-route scroll mode to highlight a line segment of the cursor indicating a direction of a destination and another line segment of the cursor extending in a direction opposite to that of the line segment; and a scroll processing unitfor, when a direction key indicating the direction of the thick-highlighted line segment indicating the direction of the destination, scrolling the map toward the direction of the destination, and for, when a direction key indicating the direction of the other line segment, scrolling the map toward the direction of a place of departure.

A traffic information display device including a current position detecting unit for detecting the current position of a vehicle in which the traffic information display device is mounted, a road map storing unit for storing road map data, a map display control unit for displaying a road map image associated with an area in the vicinity of the current position of the vehicle on the screen of a display device on the basis of the current position from the current position detecting unit and road map data from the road map storing unit, a traffic information receiving unit for receiving traffic information, a traffic information display control unit for displaying traffic information from the traffic information receiving unit on the road map image displayed on the screen of the display device, and a traffic information display restricting unit for restricting a display of traffic information about a predetermined area of the on-screen road map image so as to emphasize traffic information about the remaining area of the on-screen map image including the current position of the vehicle other than the predetermined area.

A traffic information display unit having a road type associated traffic information display mode control unit for altering the display mode of a traffic information representation in accordance with the type of a road associated with the traffic information. Alternatively, it may have a traffic information additional symbol adding unit for adding a traffic information additional symbol indicating the direction of a road associated with an accident/regulation information. Those make it possible to solve conventional problems in that a driver must manipulate a switch each time he wishes to distinguish the traffic information representation of an expressway from that of a local road, or that he cannot recognize lane in which the accident/regulation takes place because the traffic information representation of the accident/regulation information was a simple symbol on the road without showing the direction.

Traffic information display unit

A map displaying apparatus for displaying a map and a destination on a display screen. A map memory stores a map data to be displayed on a displayer. A telephone number, an area code, or postal code is inputted through an inputting panel. A second memory stores information on telephone numbers and the coordinates of positions on a map corresponding to the respective telephone numbers, information on area codes and the coordinates of positions on a map corresponding to the respective area codes, and information on postal codes and the coordinates of positions on a map corresponding to the respective postal codes. A position retrieval section reads from the second memory the coordinate of a position on a map corresponding to the telephone number inputted through the inputting panel, the coordinate of positions on a map corresponding to the area code inputted through the inputting panel, the coordinate of positions on a map corresponding to the postal code inputted through the inputting panel. The position retrieval section then retrieves map data stored in the map memory according to the telephone number, area code, or postal code and displays the map on the displayer. The map region on display may be shown highlighted when the map region is specified by information such as an area code and a postal code.

Map displaying apparatus

A navigation system for a motor vehicle serves to guide the motor vehicle along an optimum route which includes bypass roads and side destinations desired by a driver but no road of high traffic congestion. When the motor vehicle deviates from the guidance route, an optimum route is again determined, starting from the current position of the motor vehicle. The navigation system includes a manipulating unit 1A for setting the desired bypass roads, side destinations and the final destination, a system controller 11 for setting the destination and the side destinations in terms of the coordinates on a map which are stored in a RAM unit together with information concerning the bypass roads and congested roads, a route extracting unit 6A for extracting an optimum route from a plurality of routes searched by a route search unit 5A on the basis of data read out from the RAM unit 14 and a route guidance controller for determining a distance deviation between the optimum route and the current position of the motor vehicle determined by a current position determining unit 7A. When the distance deviation exceeds a predetermined value, the system controller 11 commands the route search unit 5A and the optimum route extracting unit 6A to start again a new optimum route determining operation.

Navigation system for motor vehicles

A navigation system for a movable body wherein a moving locus of the movable body displayed on a screen of display means can be identified readily and clearly from a map displayed on the screen to prevent misunderstanding of the map. The system comprises a map storage device in which a map is stored, a current position detecting device for detecting a current position of the movable body, a locus storage memory for storing therein a locus of the movable body provided by successively detected ones of the current position, a display unit having a screen, and a switching device for the switching between a mode in which the map from the map storage device, a current position and a locus of the movable body from the current position detecting device and the locus storage device are displayed on the screen and a second mode in which the map and the current position are displayed on the screen but the locus is not displayed on the screen. The navigation system further has a function of causing a locus to be displayed on the screen in accordance with a scale of a map displayed on the screen.
