An object of the present invention is to provide a photocatalytic powder containing titanium dioxide fine particles containing an anionically active substance, where the electrokinetic potential of the fine particle is from about &#x2212;100 to 0 mV in an aqueous environment at pH 5. Another object of the present invention is to provide a photocatalytic slurry containing the powder, and a polymer composition, a coating agent, a photocatalytic functional molded article and a photocatalytic functional structure using the powder.

A photocatalytic powder comprising finely divided titanium dioxide particles having a coating of a substantially water-insoluble organic substance on the surface of each titanium dioxide particle. The photocatalytic powder is made by adding an insolubilizer to a slurry containing finely divided titanium dioxide particles and a water-soluble organic substance to form a coating of an substantially water-insoluble organic substance on the surface of each titanium dioxide particle. The photocatalytic powder is used in the form of a mixture with an organic polymer for making a shaped article having good environmental clarifying property, or is supported on the surface of a structure to provide a structure having good environmental clarifying property.

Photocatalytic titanium dioxide powder, process for producing same, and applications thereof

A photocatalytic titanium dioxide powder comprised of finely divided titanium dioxide particles each having supported on the surface thereof a first supported layer of a calcium compound and further having on the surface of the first supported layer-formed particles a porous second supported layer of a photocatalytically inactive and substantially water-insoluble substance. The photocatalytic titanium dioxide powder is produced by allowing a calcium compound to be supported on the surface of finely divided titanium dioxide particles to form the first supported layer; and then, allowing a precursor material capable of forming the photocatalytically inactive and substantially water-insoluble substance to be supported on the surface of the first supported layer-formed particles, followed by converting the precursor a material to said water-insoluble substance to thereby form the porous second supported layer. A composition comprising a polymer and the photocatalytic titanium dioxide powder is used as a shaping material or a coating material for the fabrication of a shaped article or structure for environmental purification.

A photocatalytic powder for environmental clarification, comprising finely divided titanium dioxide particles having a coating of porous calcium phosphate formed on at least part of the surface of each titanium dioxide particle, wherein an anionic surface active agent is present at least on the interface between said coating of porous calcium phosphate and the titanium dioxide particle. This photocatalytic powder is produced by dispersing finely divided titanium dioxide particles in an aqueous slurry containing an anionic surface active agent, and then forming a coating of porous calcium phosphate on at least part of the surface of each titanium dioxide particle. This photocatalytic powder is used, for example, by supporting it in an organic polymer shaped article.

Photocatalytic powder for environmental clarification and powder-containing polymer composition thereof

A surface-fluorinated metal oxide particulate comprising a metal oxide particulate selected from titanium, aluminum, silicon, silver, copper, zirconium, zinc, tin, germanium, tantalum and the like, being reacted with fluorine and a process for manufacturing such surface-treated metal oxide particulates are disclosed. The process allows easy and efficient fluorination of the surface of metal oxide particulates in any desired ratio. The surface-fluorinated metal oxide particulates of the present invention are useful as an additive for weatherable paints, weatherable resins, cosmetics and the like. Surface-fluorinated titanium oxide particulates obtained by fluorination of titanium oxide particulates have improved light stability, water-repellence, and dispersibility as compared with conventional titanium oxide particulates and maintains surface smoothness of the resin-coated substrate when contained in high concentrations in thermoplastic resins as a white pigment with water content being controlled in a specified range and prevents the occurrence of troubles at the time of melt extrusion coating for obtaining resin-coated substrates.

Surface-fluorinated metal oxide particulates, process for manufacturing the same, and use of the same

A resin composition comprising a thermoplastic resin and a titanium dioxide (TiO.sub.2) pigment and having a moisture content of 10-1,400 ppm as determined by a specific method. A preferable resin composition is made by (i) atomizing 0.1-3.0 wt. parts of an organopolysiloxane within a fluidized powder layer of 100 wt. parts of TiO.sub.2 pigment; (ii) mixing 1-5 wt. parts of a metallic soap with 100 wt. parts of the TiO.sub.2 pigment; (iii) heat-treating the thus-obtained mixture at 70-200.degree. C. for 10 min-2 hours; and then, (iv) mixing a thermoplastic resin with the heat-treated mixture. The resin composition is used for coating paper or film, when it contains 20-60 wt. % of TiO.sub.2 pigment. The resin composition is used as a master batch for the preparation of a resin composition for coating paper or film, when it contains 30-80 wt. % of TiO.sub.2 pigment.

A resin composition comprising a thermoplastic resin and a titanium dioxide (TiO.sub.2) pigment and having a moisture content of 10-1,400 ppm as determined by a specific method. Magnetic particles for perpendicular magnetic recording, which are hexagonal ferrite particles having a hexagonal platelet shape, and are represented by the formula MM'.sub.x M'.sub.y Fe.sub.2x-y+2z O.sub.1+4x+3z (wherein M represents at least one element or a combination of elements selected from Ba, Sr, Ca and Pb; M' is at least one element or a combination of elements selected from Co, Zn and Mn; M' is at least one element or a combination of elements selected from Co, Ti, In, Zn, Mn, Ge, Nb, Zr, Ta, V and Sn, x is a number of z/4 to z, inclusive; y is a number of 0 to (x+z)/3, inclusive; and z is a number of 5.5 to 9.0, inclusive), and has an average particle size of from 0.01 to 0.3 .mu.m.
