A discharge lamp of the short arc type has a bulb with an arc tube and sealing tubes extending at opposite sides of the arc tube and which contains a discharge gas and a pair of opposed electrodes supported on lead pins which protrude from the outer end of the sealing tubes, the lead pins being affixed to graded glass in the sealing tube. A cooling fin surrounds the outer surface of one of the sealing tubes; and is formed of a pair of plate-shaped bodies each of which has a curved portion that contacts an outer surface of the sealing tube a strip-shaped portion extending radially from each of opposite edges of the curved portion. The strip-shaped portions of the plate-shaped bodies positionally overlap, and cooling openings are formed in the strip-shaped portions of only one of the plate-shaped bodies. Preferably, a gap is formed between the plate-shaped bodies.

A testing device equipped with: a microchip having a receiver for a test fluid, a discharge lamp which emits light into the microchip test fluid receiver, a light source housing in which the discharge lamp is located, and an arithmetic calculation mechanism, which calculates the concentration of the component to be detected, based on the intensity of the light emitted from the test fluid container unit. To reduce the size of the device and to shield the arithmetic calculation mechanism from electromagnetic waves generated around the light source, the light source housing is equipped with shielding connected to the ground on the outside of the light source housing made of insulating material. The light source housing is positioned within an enclosure of the testing device holding the microchip and containing the arithmetic calculation mechanism, analysis output device(s), and other components of the testing device.

A light source apparatus comprises reflection mirrors, first and second lamp holding sections, wherein the reflection mirrors are provided between the first and second lamp holding section, a reflection mirror support plate to which reflection mirrors are attached, a first lamp holding section support plate to which the first lamp holding section is attached, a second lamp holding section support plate to which the second lamp holding section is attached, a first fixing member which fixes the reflection mirror support plate and the first lamp holding section support plate to each other, a second fixing member which fixes the reflection mirror support plate and the second lamp holding section support plate to each other.

Light source apparatus

A light source apparatus comprises a casing having a light emission window which is formed on a front side of the casing; a lamp provided in the casing; a light condensing reflection mirror which is provided in the casing and which has a reflection face therein for reflecting light emitted from the lamp towards the light emission window; a lamp position adjustment mechanism which holds the lamp and adjusts a position of the lamp in the casing; and a spatial separation wall, wherein a light source installation space is defined by the casing and the spatial separation wall structure member, and wherein the lamp position adjustment mechanism is disposed outside the light source installation space.

To devise a small light source device in which breaking of the bulb of the light source lamp can be suppressed and in which breaking of the bulb will not damage the window component, a light source lamp supported in a housing by only one of two hermetically sealed tubes at opposite ends of an arc tube, a cooling rib is mounted on a lead pin in the one of the sealed tubes that faces toward the window component and has a larger dimension in the radial direction than the maximum diameter of the opening edge of the light exit opening in the housing. The cooling rib serves to block bulb fragments and should it contact the peripheral edge area of the light exit opening with its edge that faces the window component, due to its size, neither the lead pin nor the cooling rib will contact the window component.

A xenon lamp in which fluctuation of the arc can be suppressed and the time until formation of the flicker phenomenon delayed by having an anode with a flattened or rounded anode tip, a rounded or flattened back end; a portion with a diameter that gradually increases from the anode tip toward the back end of the anode; a portion with a decreasing diameter located behind the portion with the increasing diameter of an axial length which is greater than the length in the axial direction of the portion with an increasing diameter; and a portion with a maximum outside diameter formed in a transition area between the portion with the increasing diameter and the portion with a decreasing diameter, and that the transition area between the portion with the increasing diameter and the portion with the decreasing diameter is formed to be continuous.

Xenon lamp

A discharge lamp provided with an anode of the water cooled type achieves advantageous cooling directly connected a tungsten tip piece to a tip of a body element of the anode that is formed of copper has a water cooling arrangement therein, by having a maximum outer diameter of the tungsten tip piece about equal to an outer diameter D (mm) of the body element, and by maintaining the relationship between the outer diameter D and the thickness of the tungsten tip piece L of: 0.2.ltoreq.L/D.ltoreq.0.5. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the tungsten tip piece is directly connected to a tip of a cylindrical body element inside of which a cooling water feed tube is arranged extending coaxially to the body element, and in which cooling water is fed from a base of this cooling water feed tube, along the cooling water feed tube, strikes an inner side of the tip end of the body element and finally is conveyed through a gap between an inner side of the body element and an outer side of the cooling water feed tube which serves as a cooling water drainage duct. Preferably, the tungsten tip piece has the shape of a truncated cone whose maximum outer diameter is about equal to the outer diameter D (mm) of the body element and a thickness in a lengthwise direction of the body element.
