The head-up display apparatus includes: a display unit configured to output projection light; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; a housing, which has an opening portion, and is configured to store the display unit and the reflector therein; a cover member configured to cover the opening portion; and a polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on a housing inner side of the cover member, and includes a retardation layer and a polarizer in the stated order from a cover member side. The retardation layer has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of 3,000 nm or more. The head-up display apparatus is configured so that an angle of reflection of the projection light output from the housing through the opening portion with respect to a windshield is 30° or less, or is 40° or more.

A head-up display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a display unit configured to emit projection light, the display unit including a display cell, and a first polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on an emission side of the display cell, and which includes a polarizer and a first retardation layer in the stated order from a display cell side; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; and a second polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on a reflection surface of the reflector, and which includes a polarizer and a second retardation layer in the stated order from a reflector side. The head-up display apparatus includes: a display unit configured to output projection light; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; a housing, which has an opening portion, and is configured to store the display unit and the reflector therein; a cover member configured to cover the opening portion; and a polarizing plate arranged on a housing inner side of the cover member. The cover member has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of 3,000 nm or more. The head-up display apparatus is configured so that an angle of reflection of the projection light output from the housing through the opening portion with respect to a windshield is 30&#xb0; or less, or is 40&#xb0; or more.

There is provided an image generation method and an image synthesis method each of which can achieve an entire image having excellent image quality. A method of producing a polarizing plate according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: preparing a polarizing film laminate including a polarizer and a protective film arranged on at least one side of the polarizer; and shrinking the polarizing film laminate.

An object of the present invention is to provide an optical laminate that can achieve an excellent reflection hue and an excellent viewing angle characteristic. An optical laminate of the present invention includes a polarizer; a retardation layer configured to substantially function as a &#x3bb;/4 plate; and a light-diffusing layer. The polarizer has a hue a of from &#x2212;1.2 to 0 and a hue b of from 0 to 3.0.
