A sputter target material which is of a sintered material, wherein the sputter target material consists of 0.5 to 50 atomic % in total of at least one metal element (M) selected from the group of Ti, Zr, V, Nb and Cr, and the balance of Mo and unavoidable impurities, and has a microstructure seen at a perpendicular cross section to a sputtering surface, in which microstructure oxide particles exist near a boundary of each island of the metal element (M), and wherein the maximum area of the island, which is defined by connecting the oxide particles with linear lines so as to form a closed zone, is not more than 1.0 mm.

Method of producing a sputter target material

The magnet powder-resin compound particles substantially composed of rare earth magnet powder and a binder resin are in such a round shape that a ratio of the longitudinal size a to the transverse size b (a/b) is more than 1.00 and 3 or less, and that an average particle size defined by (a/b)/2 is 50-300 &#x3bc;m. They are produced by charging a mixture of rare earth magnet powder and a binder resin into an extruder equipped with nozzle orifices each having a diameter of 300 &#x3bc;m or less; extruding the mixture while blending under pressure though the nozzle orifices to form substantially cylindrical, fine pellets; and rounding the pellets by rotation.

Magnet powder-resin compound particles, method for producing such compound particles and resin-bonded rare earth magnets formed therefrom

A resin-bonded magnet composed substantially of (a) an R&mdash;T&mdash;N-based magnetic powder having a basic composition of R T N , wherein R is at least one selected form the group consisting of rare earth elements including Y, T is Fe or Fe and Co, 5&lE;&agr;&lE;20, and 5&lE;&bgr;&lE;30, (b) a ferrite magnetic powder having a substantially magnetoplumbite-type crystal structure and a basic composition represented by (A R&prime; ) O&lsqb;(Fe M ) O &rsqb; by atomic ratio, wherein A is Sr and/or Ba, R&prime; is at least one selected from the group consisting of rare earth elements including Y, La being indispensable, M is Co or Co and Zn, 0.01&lE;x<0.4, 0.005&lE;y&lE;0.04, and 5.0&lE;n&lE;6.4, and (c) a binder. The ferrite magnet powder is preferably an anisotropic, granulated powder or an anisotropic, sintered ferrite magnet powder.

Resin-bonded magnet, its product, and ferrite magnet powder and compound used therefor

The magnet powder-resin compound particles substantially composed of rare earth magnet powder and a binder resin are in such a round shape that a ratio of the longitudinal size a to the transverse size b (a/b) is more than 1.00 and 3 or less, and that an average particle size defined by (a/b)/2 is 50-300 &mgr;m. A magnetically anistropic R-T-B magnet having crystal grains having aspect ratios of 2 or more and showing a substantially uniform maximum energy product distribution is produced by (a) rapidly quenching an alloy melt; (b) finely pulverizing the rapidly quenched alloy to provide magnetic powder; (c) mixing the magnetic powder with a carbon-containing additive; (d) coating the resulting mixture with a protective layer of a first lubricant such as BN substantially unreactive with the alloy components; (e) compressing it; (f) further coating the resulting compressed body with a second lubricant such as graphite or graphite+glass; and (g) further compressing it.

Magnetically anisotropic R-T-B magnet

A magnetically anisotropic R-T-B magnet having crystal grains having aspect ratios of 2 or more and showing a substantially uniform maximum energy product distribution is produced by (a) rapidly quenching an alloy melt; (b) finely pulverizing the rapidly quenched alloy to provide magnetic powder; (c) mixing the magnetic powder with a carbon-containing additive; (d) coating the resulting mixture with a protective layer of a first lubricant such as BN substantially unreactive with the alloy components; (e) compressing it; (f) further coating the resulting compressed body with a second lubricant such as graphite or graphite+glass; and (g) further compressing it.

A magnetically anisotropic hot-worked magnet made of an R-T-B alloy containing a transition metal T as a main component, a rare earth element R including yttrium, and boron B; the magnet having the fine crystal grains having an average grain size of 0.02 -1.0 .mu.m, and having a carbon content of 0.8 weight % or less and an oxygen content of 0.5 weight % or less. The angular variance of orientation of the crystal grains is within 30.degree. from the C axes of the crystal grains when measured by X-ray. This magnet can be produced by mixing the magnet flakes with an additive composed of at least one organic compound having a boiling point of 50.degree. C. or higher.

Magnetically anisotropic hot-worked magnet and method of producing same

Anisotropic not-worked permanent magnets are made from an R-T-B alloyed powder to which is added a combination internal lubricant including a carbon-based material such as graphite and a glass material such as glass from the B.sub.2 O.sub.3 -SiO.sub.2 -BiO.sub.3 glass system. The internal lubricant provides improved formability during the hot-working step, such as die-upsetting, and provides finished magnet products wherein the individual grains are more uniformly plastically deformed throughout the product.

Magnetically anisotropic hotworked magnet and method of producing same

A the magnetically anisotropic magnetic powder having an average particle size of 1-1000 .mu.m and made from a magnetically anisotropic R-TM-B-Ga or R-TM-B-Ga-M alloy having an average crystal grain size of 0.01-0.5 .mu.m, wherein R represents one or more rare earth elements including Y, TM represents Fe which may be partially substituted by Co, B boron, Ga gallium, and M one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Nb, W, V, Ta, Mo, Si, Al, Zr, Hf, P, C and Zn. This is useful for anisotropic resin-bonded magnet with high magnetic properties.

Anisotropic magnetic powder and magnet thereof and method of producing

A process for producing magnetically anisotropic powder having 'flattened' crystal grains of an R-TM-B-M system alloy with preferably (c)/(a) greater than 2, where (c) is the grain size perpendicular to the C-axis and (a) the grain size parallel to the C-axis, includes the steps of plastically deforming a green compact of flakes formed by rapidly-quenching the alloy melt, and then crushing the plastically deformed body. In the alloy system, R is at least one of the rare earth elements including Y, TM is Fe or Fe a part of which has been substituted with Co, B is boron, and M is an additive selected from Si, Al, Nb, Zr, P and C.

Disclosed is a device for manufacturing Nd-Fe-B alloy magnet materials, and in particular, for manufacturing an integral, columnar-ring-shaped Nd-Fe-B magnet which is multi-pole-magnetized along the circumference thereof and which is used as the rotor magnet of a high-efficiency stepping motor. The device of this invention is composed of a die punch, an upper and a lower punch having two concentric sections. The space is defined by the die and the upper and lower punches includes induction means for heating the green compact or the densified compact and sealing means for keeping the die under a reduced pressure condition or in an inert gas atmosphere.

Device for manufacturing magnetically anisotropic magnets

Anisotropic hot-worked permanent magnets are made from an R-T-B alloyed powder to which is added a combination internal lubricant including a carbon-based material such as graphite and a glass material such as glass from the B.sub.2 O.sub.3 --SiO.sub.2 --BiO.sub.3 glass system. The internal lubricant provides improved formability during the hot-working step, such as die-upsetting, and provides finished magnet products wherein the individual grains are more uniformly plastically deformed throughout the product.

A method of producing a magnetically anisotropic Nd-Fe-B magnet material comprising the steps of: charging a green body produced by pressing a flaky or powdery material consisting of an amorphous alloy and/or a finely crystallized alloy, into a cavity defined by a die having a hole extending therethrough, a lower plunger inserted into said hole, and an upper plunger having a larger diameter than that of said hole; pressing said green body by elevating said lower plunger while keeping a temperature thereof (pressing temperature) at 600.degree.-850.degree.; elevating the resulting pressed body by elevating said lower plunger while heating; and upsetting said pressed body while keeping a temperature thereof (upsetting temperature) at 600.degree.-850.degree. C. to provide it with magnetic anisotropy.

Method and apparatus for producing magnetically anisotropic Nd-Fe-B

A magnetically anisotropic hot-worked magnet made of an R-T-B alloy containing a transition metal T as a main component, a rare earth element R including yttrium, and boron B; the magnet having fine crystal grains having an average grain size of 0.02-1.0 .mu.m, and having a carbon content of 0.8 weight % or less than an oxygen content of 0.5 weight % or less. The angular variance of orientation of the crystal grains is within 30.degree. from the C axes of the crystal grains when measured by X-ray. This magnet can be produced by mixing the magnet flakes with an additive composed of at least one organic compound having a boiling point of 50.degree. C. or higher.
