A pain sensory nerve stimulation apparatus includes: an electrode portion including: a first electrode, a tip end of which is adapted to be inserted into a skin; and at lease one second electrode which is disposed in a circumference of the first electrode without being electrically conductive with the first electrode, and which is adapted to be in contact with a skin; and a stimulation signal supplying unit, supplying a bipolar stimulation signal between the first electrode and the second electrode, the bipolar stimulation signal including a first waveform signal and a second waveform, the first waveform which is convex in a negative direction in the first electrode, the second waveform signal which is convex in a positive direction in the first electrode.

A gas analysis system includes a gas analyzer which analyzes a gas acquired from a living body and a liquid separator which is detachably attached to the gas analyzer, and which separates a liquid component from the gas. In the gas analysis system, the liquid separator includes a magnet, and the gas analyzer includes a magnetic sensor which detects magnetism generated by the magnet, and a determining section which, based on the magnetism detected by the magnetic sensor, determines that the liquid separator is attached to the gas analyzer.

A method of producing a temperature sensor which is configured to detect a temperature change of a respiratory gas of a subject, includes: preparing a rod-like heat sensitive element which includes a heat sensitive portion in a tip end portion; placing the heat sensitive portion in a cavity of a mold; injecting a resin material into the cavity to mold a protective portion which covers the heat sensitive element; and releasing the tip end portion in which the protective portion is formed, from the mold.

An endoscope for endotracheal intubation includes an elongated insertion section having a handle operation section, a bending operation mechanism and a bending mechanism for bending the insertion section, the bending mechanism including a long elastic member having one end positioned near the distal end portion of the insertion section and the other end fixedly coupled to the bending operation mechanism, a push-pull member having one end positioned near the distal end portion of the insertion section and the other end connected to the bending mechanism, a hollow member for coupling together distal end portions of the elastic member and the push-pull member so as to cause the portions to oppose each other along a bending direction, wherein the distal end portions of the elastic member and the push-pull member, which are coupled together with the hollow member, are provided integrally so as to provide a free end.

An endoscope for intubating an endotracheal tube includes an elongated insertion portion including at least an image transmitting optical fiber bundle, an illumination light transmitting optical fiber bundle, and a bendable element, an operation portion connected to the proximal end portion of the insertion portion, a bending operation mechanism provided in the operation portion, an endotracheal tube connection section provided in the vicinity of a joint between the insertion portion and the operation portion; and a bendable element for bending the insertion portion provided so as to extend from the inside of the insertion portion to the bending operation mechanism.

A pupil dilating dilution is dropped into one of the left eye or the right eye of a subject. Video cameras 1A, 1B are directed toward the bulbs of the eyes 22A, 22B, and output video signals on the pupils of both left and right eyes. These video signals are delivered to an area calculating circuit 7 through video camera control units 4A, 4B and an image receiving circuit 6. The area calculating circuit 7 calculates the areas of the given pupils of both left and right eyes, and applies the calculated results to a digital computer 8. The digital computer 8 calculates a difference between the given pupil areas of both the left and right eyes, calculates an index value relating to the magnification of the pupil area based on the calculated difference, and judges whether or not the subject is affected with Alzheimer's disease.

Disease judging apparatus

An eyepiece optical system, an illuminating lamp, and a battery 2 are housed in an operation unit 2. An insertion unit in which an image transmitting optical fiber bundle and an illumination light transmitting optical fiber bundle are incorporated is detachably coupled with the operation unit through a coupling unit. The insertion unit is bent using a bending wire attached to the distal end thereof and coupled to the operation unit by a wire operating mechanism. An anti-clouding material can be disposed on a surface of the distal end of the insertion unit to protect it against clouding.

A capnometer includes an airway adaptor for letting a respiratory gas pass therethrough, a light source for holding the airway adaptor and irradiating with infrared radiations the respiratory gas passing through the airway adaptor, a detecting portion having an infrared radiation detector for detecting the infrared radiations that have passed through the respiratory gas, and a monitor body for measuring the concentration of respiratory carbon dioxide gas by receiving a signal from the detecting portion, wherein an angle is defined between the channel of the airway adaptor and a display surface of the monitor body.

The apparatus has: electrodes (E.sub.1 to E.sub.6) which are to be attached to a predetermined region of a living body; a skin potential measuring unit (1) which detects the skin potential from the electrodes; a judging unit (3) which detects and stores the skin potential before administration of an anesthetic agent, which detects and stores that after administration of the anesthetic agent, which sets a threshold to be an arbitrary level, on the basis of a change from the stored skin potential before administration of the anesthetic agent to the stored skin potential after administration of the anesthetic agent, and which compares the time-varying skin potential with the threshold, thereby judging the depth of anesthesia; and an alarm unit (6) which raises an alarm in accordance with instructions from the judging unit.

Method and apparatus for judging a depth of anesthesia

A housing has a hollow section, and openings are formed at both ends of the hollow section so as to communicate with the outside. An aperture is formed in the internal wall of the housing so as to oppose the opening, and a video camera is fitted into the opening. A half mirror, a mirror, an optical lens, and light sources are disposed within the hollow section. The light sources are alternately illuminated while a patient wears equipment having such a construction. Light reflected from one eye passes through the half mirror and enters a light receiving surface of the video camera. On the other hand, light reflected from the other eye is reflected from the mirror and a half mirror and, then, enters the light receiving surface of the video camera. The optical lens corrects an error arising from a difference in length between two optical paths.
