An image processing apparatus is provided which can output an image from which only specific image information can be positively detected when the specific image information used to prohibit copying of image information is added to image data. The present invention includes a specific image information adding portion that adds specific image information representing a specific image to image data when image processing is performed for input image data and a specific image information setting portion that sets a color and/or number of the specific image information.

It is determined whether data received from the central station is a new program. Replacement is then executed of a previously stored program with the new program, if a new program is received. A device for judging the type of color of a document judges in real time on the basis of read data whether or not a document is a color document or a black-and-white document. It is judged whether or not each pixel is a color pixel on the basis of the read data. When not less than a predetermined number of color pixels are continuously detected, the presence of a color block is detected. When there are not less than a predetermined number of color blocks in one line or there is a relatively long color block having not less than a constant length in one line, it is judged that the line is a color line. When not less than a predetermined number of color lines, for example, 100 color lines are detected, it is judged that the document is a color document.
