A display device includes a first substrate; a second substrate; a plurality of pixels; a shutter mechanism section formed in correspondence with each of the pixels, a fluid sealed in an space between the first substrate and the second substrate; and an impact absorption section located to face one substrate among the first substrate and the second substrate, on the side opposite to the side on which the fluid is located. The shutter mechanism section is formed on the second substrate and includes a movable shutter section for controlling a light transmittance of each of the pixels. The impact absorption section includes a third substrate located to face the one substrate, on the side opposite to the fluid, a sealing section for bringing together the one substrate and the third substrate, and a predetermined gap formed among the one substrate, the third substrate and the sealing section.

Display device

This disclosure provides novel latching circuits, and pixel circuits and display devices that include such latching circuits. The latches herein include a switch positioned on an inverter coupling interconnect which couples two cross-coupled inverters of the latch. The switch is configured to control a passage of a current between the first and second inverters. By switching the switch OFF at a time a data voltage is transferred to the inverters, any leak current between the inverters can be interrupted. As a result, a malfunctioning of the data latch is prevented.

MEMS display pixel control circuits and methods

A display device includes a substrate having an upper surface. The display device also includes a light reflecting layer to reflect light, formed over the upper surface of the substrate. The display device also includes a light absorbing layer to absorb light, formed over the upper surface of the light reflecting layer. A plurality of apertures are defined through the light reflecting layer and the light absorbing layer such that, at an edge of each of the plurality of apertures, the light absorbing layer partially overhangs the light reflecting layer.

Display device with tapered light reflecting layer and manufacturing method for same

A metal layer is formed on a highly light-transmissive substrate; a resist mask having an opening pattern is formed on the metal layer; exposed portions of the metal layer is etched away in this state to form openings; then the resist mask is removed; and a surface of the metal layer and an inner side wall of each of the openings are oxidized to form a metal oxide layer. Thus, a front surface and a rear surface of the aperture plate are caused to have different reflectances. The oxide layer is formed at the same time as when the resist mask is ashed to remove resist.

Display device and method for manufacturing the display device

In a movable shutter-system display device, a movable shutter includes an amorphous silicon film material which has a low residual stress and thus is stable. A display device includes a display panel comprising a first substrate and a second substrate. The display panel includes a plurality of pixels; each of the plurality of pixels includes a movable shutter including amorphous silicon and a driving circuit for driving the movable shutter; and the amorphous silicon included in the movable shutter is formed of at least two amorphous silicon films, and where any two amorphous silicon films adjacent to each other among the at least two amorphous silicon films are a first amorphous silicon film and a second amorphous silicon film stacked on the first amorphous silicon film, the first amorphous silicon film and the second amorphous silicon film have different characteristic values.

Display device and method of manufacturing the display device

Provided is a display device, including: a pair of substrates arranged at an interval; oil filled between the pair of substrates; a shutter arranged in the oil; a drive portion, which is arranged in the oil, for driving the shutter in a predetermined direction; and a wall portion provided in the oil and on one of the pair of substrates. The wall portion is positioned adjacent to the shutter in one of the predetermined direction of the shutter and a direction orthogonal to the predetermined direction. The wall portion has a height exceeding a height of the shutter in a thickness direction of the shutter. The wall portion has at least a part positioned lateral to the shutter.

The gate electrode is formed above the polycrystalline semiconductor layer through the gate insulating film. The polycrystalline semiconductor layer includes a first region overlapping with the gate electrode in plan view. The first region is sandwiched between the second region and the third region. The second region of the polycrystalline semiconductor layer includes a first impurity diffusion region and two second impurity diffusion regions opposite in conductivity type to the first impurity diffusion region. The first region and the first impurity diffusion region are in contact with each other at a first boundary. The first region and the two second impurity diffusion regions are in contact with each other at second boundaries. The two second impurity diffusion regions sandwiching the first impurity diffusion region are provided along the gate electrode. Thus, a leak current is suppressed.

A liquid crystal display device which can reduce a scale of the whole counter-electrode-signal drive circuits is provided. The liquid crystal display device includes: a substrate; a plurality of counter electrodes which are formed on the substrate corresponding to pixels; a plurality of counter electrode signal lines which are formed on the substrate, are electrically made conductive with the counter electrodes, extend in the X direction, and are arranged parallel to each other in the Y direction which intersects the X direction; and counter electrode signal drive circuits having control signal outputting parts which are mounted on the substrate at a rate of one control signal outputting part for two counter electrode signal lines.

Liquid crystal display device

A method for driving a liquid crystal display device that decreases a sticking of the display image. The liquid crystal display device includes a pixel electrode and a counter electrode. A polarity of the signal supplied to the pixel electrode is periodically inverted at the first period and the second period. The length of the first period is different from that of the second period.

Method for driving a liquid crystal display device

A display device having a photosensor which exhibits excellent photoelectric conversion efficiency is provided. In a display device which forms photosensors on a substrate thereof, the photosensor is formed by sequentially stacking a gate electrode, a gate insulation film and a semiconductor layer in such an order or in an opposite order from a substrate side, and electrodes are connected to both sides of the semiconductor layer respectively, the semiconductor layer is formed of a stacked body consisting of a crystalline semiconductor layer and an amorphous semiconductor layer, and the crystalline semiconductor layer is arranged on the gate insulation film side.

The present invention provides a display device which is used in a miniaturized portable information device, wherein the display device requires a small mounting area for a driving circuit thus realizing free mounting of the driving circuit and also can perform driving thereof with a low-voltage power source such as a battery. In a display device which includes a display panel and a driving circuit on the same substrate, a booster circuit is formed on one side of a display panel together with the driving circuit and is formed by steps substantially equal to steps for pixel transistors. The booster circuit includes a circuit which compensates for the lowering of voltage of a switching element used in the booster circuit attributed to a threshold value of a switching element.

Provided is a display device including a level shift circuit, which includes a thin film transistor having a polycrystalline semiconductor layer, and which realizes a reliable operation even when a threshold of the thin film transistor varies. The display device includes: a board; and the level shift circuit which includes the thin film transistor having the polycrystalline semiconductor layer, and is formed on the board, in which the level shift circuit includes: a plurality of source-input level shift circuits including a plurality of unit level shift circuits having drain resistors different in value from one another; and a selection circuit, which selects one of outputs from the plurality of unit level shift circuits as an output from a normally operated unit level shift circuit.

A display device includes a display panel having (m&#xd7;n) pieces of pixels wherein m and n are integers of 2 or more, n pieces of video lines, and m pieces of scanning lines, a video line address circuit, a scanning line address circuit, n pieces of video line vector circuits which are connected to the respective output terminals of the video line address circuit and input the same video data to the pixels at address positions from a starting address to an ending address at one time, and m pieces of scanning line vector circuits which are connected to the respective output terminals of the scanning line address circuits and input the selective scanning voltages to the pixels at the address positions from the starting address to the ending address at one time.

An object of the present invention is to increase the speed of the level shifting operation in a display device having a level shift circuit formed of polysilicon thin film transistors. The present invention provides a display device having a level shift circuit wherein the above described level shift circuit has: a thin film transistor having a semiconductor layer formed of a polysilicon layer; a load resistance element connected between a second electrode of the above described thin film transistor and a reference power supply; and a waveform rectifying circuit connected to the second electrode of the above described thin film transistor, and a diode element of which the anode region is connected to the first electrode of the above described thin film transistor and of which the cathode region is connected to the second electrode of the above described thin film transistor.
