A porous composite comprising a porous layer containing a calcium phosphate ceramic, and a dense layer formed on part of the porous layer and having a smaller average pore size than that of the porous layer. The porous composite can be produced by (1) introducing a slurry containing a calcium phosphate ceramic/collagen composite and collagen into a molding die having a high thermal conductivity, (2) rapidly freezing and drying the slurry in the molding die, to form a porous body comprising a porous layer and a dense layer formed on the porous layer, (3) cross-linking collagen in the porous body, and (4) removing the dense layer except for a portion thereof on a surface coming into contact with a soft tissue when implanted in a human body, so that the porous layer is exposed.

Method for producing porous body comprising apatite/collagen composite fibers

A method of manufacturing a powder, by which it is possible to adjust the strength of the obtained powder is provided. The manufacturing method of a powder involves a step of preparing a slurry containing agglomerated particles of a synthetic material which is produced by reacting a first material and a second material under agitation, and a step of drying the slurry to obtain a powder of the synthetic material. The method has a feature that the particle size of the agglomerated particles is adjusted by, in the step of preparing a slurry, controlling agitation power for agitating the slurry. In the step of preparing a slurry, it is preferable that the slurry is initially agitated at a first agitation power, and at the time when the viscosity of the slurry approaches its maximum value, or at the time when the pH value of the slurry reaches the vicinity of the isoelectric point of the synthetic material, the agitation power is lowered from the first agitation power to a second agitation power. Further, it is preferable that before or after the completion of the reaction of the first material and the second material, the agitation power is increased from the second agitation power to a third agitation power.

A prosthetic bone filler including ceramic granules for use in a living body, the ceramic granules being bonded to each other with a polymeric substance, and having ventilation pores produced as a result of the presence of gaps between the adjacent granules. The prosthetic bone filler is produced by adding the polymeric substance in two portions to the ceramic granules. In addition to good flexibility, the prosthetic bone filler exhibits excellent bio-compatibility.

An additive is dispersed in a matrix having a larger thermal expansion coefficient, which forms a film that prevents the permeation of the ink at the room temperature while allowing the permeation of the ink at high temperature. An ink roller is formed by covering a roller-like sponge body containing ink (an ink holder) with the film. Along the outer circumference of the ink roller, a thermal head that heats the surface of the ink roller according to a print pattern and a platen roller that sandwiches recording sheet between itself and the ink roller are disposed. Then, by rotating the ink roller and heating the thermal head, the ink permeates through the heated part of the film and is transferred to the recording sheet to form an ink image on the recording sheet.

Ink transfer printer

A mode control system is provided for a printer having an internal battery. The mode control system selects at least a charge operation for charging the battery and a printing operation for printing an image on a recording sheet fed into the printer. The mode control system also includes a manually operable member. A duration of an operation of the manually operable member is detected, and one of the charge operation and the print operation is selected in accordance with the duration of the operation of the manually operable member.

In a thermal printer having a plurality of thermal elements arranged in a line, voltage of a battery which is to be applied to the thermal elements is detected. Based on the detected voltage, the period of time during which the thermal elements are driven is determined.

Battery operated thermal printer with means to optimize battery life

A recording sheet cleaning apparatus is mounted on a printer having a thermal head and arranged to feed a recording sheet along a sheet feeding path. The recording sheet cleaning apparatus includes a wiping member located upstream of the thermal head along the sheet feeding path. The wiping member is located on the same side as the thermal head with respect to the sheet feeding path. The recording sheet introduced into the printer contacts with the wiping member, so that the printing surface of the recording sheet (the surface facing the thermal head) is wiped by the wiping member before printing.

Recording sheet cleaning apparatus for thermal printer

A cassette casing for holding an ink film ribbon has a discharge outlet for the ink film ribbon. A winding core is rotatably mounted in the cassette casing. An ink film ribbon is wound on the winding core and has one end thereof discharged through the discharge outlet. At least one slide contact member is disposed at the discharge outlet and contacts the ink film ribbon along the full width of the ink film ribbon.

A printer has a rechargeable battery and an electrically driven device required for printing. The device is powered by the battery. The printer uses the device as a load for discharging the battery without performing a printing operation.

A thermal printer for forming an image on a sheet includes a thermal head having a plurality of linearly arranged thermal elements. A total number of thermal elements to be energized to form the line image is determined. A difference between the total thermal elements to be energized to form the line image, and previous number of the thermal elements that were energized to form a previous line image is calculated. The thermal elements are then driven for a period of time which is a function of the difference between the total number and the previous number that was calculated.

A recording unit is formed by successively adhering layers of ink donor film of differing colors to each other. A bottom layer is adhered to an image receiving sheet, along a top edge of the recording unit. The image receiving sheet is longer than the ink donor films. In order to print a color image, the bottom ink donor film is layered onto the image receiving sheet, while the rest of the ink donor films are flipped away from the image receiving sheet. The layered film and sheet are fed from a print starting position through a thermal transfer printer that feeds and prints the film and sheet in a forward direction to a print termination position, and then feeds the film and used sheet in a reverse direction to the print starting position. The used film is removed, the next film layered onto the image receiving sheet, and the process is repeated until all the ink donor films have been used.

A thermal printer that forms an image on a sheet. The thermal printer includes a thermal head having a plurality of linearly arranged thermal elements, a device for converting image information into bit-map image data, and a device for storing the bit-map image data. A predetermined portion of the stored bit-map image data is transmitted to the thermal head, and a remaining amount of the stored bit-map image data which has not been transmitted to the thermal head is detected. A time interval between a transmission of the predetermined portion of the stored bit-map image data and a subsequent transmission of the predetermined portion of the stored bit-map image data is set, in response to the detected remaining amount of the stored bit-map image data.
