An electron beam trajectory controlling device includes a main deflection section having a first main coil and defining a first path and being configured to control a trajectory of an electron traveling along the first path. The main deflection section includes a first auxiliary coil provided proximate the first main coil. A minor deflection section is provided adjacent to the main deflection section and has a first minor coil that is coupled to the first auxiliary coil. The minor deflection section defines a second electron path that is aligned to the first path. The minor deflection section cooperates with the main deflection section to control the trajectory of the electron.

A mono-pole antenna is composed of a first element and a second element. An insulator spacer is disposed between the first element and the second element so as to capacitively couple them. In the state that the antenna is retracted, the helical antenna operates. In the state that the antenna is extended, the mono-pole antenna composed of the first element and the second element operates. Since the mono-pole antenna is composed of the first element and the second element that are capacitively coupled, even if the electrical length of the helical antenna is different from the electrical length of the mono-pole antenna, the impedances can be properly matched with a common matching circuit.

An antenna used for a portable telephone includes a cylindrical outer conductor, an inner conductor, first and second coils and a contact. The inner conductor is disposed inside the outer conductor and is movable between a position wherein it has been pulled out from one end of the outer conductor and a position wherein it has been received into the outer conductor. The first coil is connected between a feed point and a feed side end portion of the outer conductor. The second coil is mounted on an end portion of the inner conductor projecting from the outer conductor. The contact is mounted on the feed point. In the antenna, when the inner conductor has been received into the outer conductor, the inner conductor makes contact with the contact and the first coil is thereby shorted and the electrical length is supplemented by the second coil.
