A sensor cartridge () for use on a sensor feeder includes a cartridge body () and a mold (). The cartridge body () has an upper surface (), a front () extending continously from the upper surface, and a plurality of sensor-holding slots (). A glucose sensor system comprising the steps of using as a sample discriminating parameter a ratio (I/&#x394;I) of a measured current value I to the time-differential value of the current value &#x394;I, defining a discrimination function that discriminates whether a sample is blood or control fluid and uses the discriminating parameter as an independent variable, quantitating as a discriminating index a numeric value obtained by substituting a discriminating parameter value into this discrimination function, and automatically discriminating, based on this index, whether the sample is blood or a control fluid, whereby a kind of the sample can be automatically quantitated by measuring electric current when a sensor system is used for quantitating the concentration of an analysis object in the sample.

Sample discriminating method

A biosensor is constituted by disposing an electrode system including a working electrode and a counter electrode on a substrate, forming an inorganic particulate-containing layer containing inorganic particulates thereon, and forming a reagent layer containing a reagent thereon. The inorganic particulates make it possible to prevent impurities in a sample from being in contact with the electrode system and being adsorbed therein, so that measurement is performed with high precision. The inorganic particulate-containing layer can be formed by applying a dispersion system of inorganic particulates and drying them, and it is preferable that the inorganic particulates are contained in the form of aggregates.

Body fluid sampling apparatus

A predetermined voltage is applied to a biosensor twice to promote an electrochemical reaction, and the following parameters (P and P ) are calculated from the values of detected current. A statistical technique is used with these parameters to compensate for errors so that the concentration of an object can be determined. P : the ratio (If/Ib) of the maximum current (If) or a current occurring the maximum in the first excitation to a current (Ib) read at any point in the second excitation. P : a current (Ib) read at any point in the second excitation.

Current-detecting type dry-operative ion-selective electrode

There is provided a method for the determination of a glucose concentration in a whole blood utilizing a biosensor. A correction of the measured glucose concentration for dilution error introduced by the solid component of blood cells is calculated based on the change in glucose concentration measured before and after significant glucose has diffused from blood cells into the buffer used to dilute the sample. Thus, the need to centrifuge blood samples to obtain a cell-free serum sample for glucose determination is eliminated.
