A driving apparatus comprises: an electro-mechanical conversion element; a driving member that drives backwards and forwards in a straight line in response to extension and contraction of the electro-mechanical conversion element which are brought about by a drive signal being supplied thereto; a driven member, frictionally engaged with the driving member, that moves backwards and forwards in a straight line along the driving member by driving the driving member; and a drive control unit that divides a whole traveling area of one or both of an outgoing traveling path and an incoming traveling path of the driven member into a plurality of divided areas and supplies different drive signals to the divided areas so as to implement a drive control.

Driving apparatus

In a camera having an LCD and a clock device, a power source consists of a battery and a booster circuit. When a power switch button is pressed, the camera moves to an ON mode including a drive mode and a standby mode. In the drive mode, the booster circuit is continuously turned on to supply voltage of a predetermined high level. In the standby mode, the booster circuit is intermittently turned on to output voltage of between the predetermined high level and a minimum display voltage level that is necessary for the LCD to keep its display density in a proper range. The booster circuit is normally turned off in an OFF mode. But if the battery voltage goes below a reset level below which a clock device of the camera cannot work, the booster circuit is intermittently turned on in the OFF mode, to boost the battery voltage up above the reset level and drive the clock device by the output voltage of the booster circuit.

Method of controlling power source of camera

A pseudo zoom camera, which utilizes a film cartridge provided with an information storing device, comprises a taking lens optical system for projecting an object image onto a portion of photographic film, which portion has been pulled out of the film cartridge. The camera also comprises a finder optical system capable of displaying an image of a field angle, which is different from the field angle of the object image formed by the taking lens optical system, in a predetermined region representing an image-recording range. A writing device writes information representing an image range ratio of the image, which is displayed in the predetermined region by the finder optical system, to the object image, the information being written on the information storing device of the film cartridge.

Photo printing system and camera for the same

A data imprinting device of a camera, when a free mode is set, is responsive to operation by each camera user, and prepares character strings as desired by the camera user and stores the prepared character strings to an electrically rewritable non-volatile memory E.sup.2 PROM. When the free mode is set, character strings stored in the E.sup.2 PROM are read out from the E.sup.2 PROM according to operation by the camera user, and displayed on an imprint display unit and used for imprinting. As character strings prepared by the camera user are stored in the E.sup.2 PROM, the character strings are preserved without being destroyed even when a power source is shut down because a battery is unloaded or used up.

Data imprinting device of camera

This camera performs battery checking which corresponds to the respective photographing modes at the time of presetting the various photographing modes. This battery check calculates an added electrical quantity between an electrical quantity consumed for 5 minutes, during which an auto-power off mechanism is operated in a state where a photographing mode is set and an electrical quantity required for the time from the start of the photographing under this photographing mode to completion of the photographing under this photographing mode in association with the selected photographing mode. Then, the added electrical quantity thus calculated is compared with a residue of the battery for a camera power source, and, only when the residue of the battery exceeds the added electrical quantity, presetting of the photographing mode is permitted. When presetting of the photographing mode is permitted with this arrangement, photographing can be carried out reliably until the execution of the photographing mode is completed.

Method of checking a battery of a camera and a device

When a remote control shot mode is set, a voltage of an electric battery mounted in a camera is detected. The detected voltage is compared with a predetermined remote control OK voltage. A quantity of electricity consumed within 5 minutes until function of automatic power-off is operated after the remote control shot mode is set, is added to a quantity of electricity consumed from a shutter release by a remote controller to the setting of a next frame shot. The added value is converted into a voltage of the electric battery to be the remote control OK voltage. The remote control shot mode is allowed only if the detected voltage of the electric battery is more than the remote control OK voltage. As a result, when the setting of the remote controller shot mode is allowed, the photographing can be performed without fail.

Method and apparatus for checking battery in camera

A camera according to the present invention prevents distance measurement errors in remote control shots under high luminance and those in which the distance of a background between right and left objects is measured, by projecting a remote control signal including a ranging signal in a form of infrared beam from a transmitter. The ranging signal, within the remote control signal, includes multiple pulses with different pulse widths, and each pulse width is set so that the number of pulses received by the receiving circuit becomes fewer accordingly as the distance between the transmitter and a receiver provided in the camera becomes larger. When the receiver receives a ranging signal from the transmitter, a distance recognizing unit counts a pulse number of the ranging signal received by the receiver, and recognizes the distance to the transmitter, namely the object, from the relationship of received pulse numbers and distance stored in a memory unit.

Camera with infrared beam type remote controller

A data writing/reading device of a camera, in case it has become impossible to write data correctly to certain memory area of an E.sup.2 PROM because of frequent rewritings, can write data to other memory areas of the E.sup.2 PROM, and read out the data. Write requiring data to the E.sup.2 PROM is written to a first predetermined address of the E.sup.2 PROM, and read out immediately after writing. If the write requiring data and the read data are non-coincident, an address which is different from the preceding address is designated, and writing and reading are repeated until the write requiring data and read data become coincident. When the write requiring data and the read data agree with each other, writing to the E.sup.2 PROM is finished. And, an address on which data which agrees with the write requiring data is written, as data, to a second predetermined address of the E.sup.2 PROM which does not overlap with addresses used for writing write requiring data. In reading, the address on which the data which agrees with the write requiring data is written is read out from the second predetermined address, and the data is read out from the E.sup.2 PROM based on the read address.

Data writing/reading device of camera

A pre-winding control device of a camera which continues pre-winding from where it left off after a power failure interruption and battery replacement. When a patrone is loaded in the camera, the total number exposures is read from the patrone and the read number of written to an electrically rewritable non-volatile memory E.sup.2 PROM. Subsequently, pre-winding for winding the film from the patrone to a spool is started. For every frame of film wound to the spool, the number of unexposed frames in the patrone is counted down and written to the E.sup.2 PROM. When pre-winding is interrupted due to battery replacement, pre-winding is continued based on the number of unexposed frames stored in non-volatile E.sup.2 PROM.

Prewinding control device of camera

A camara control device continues a pre-winding or a first frame setting when a pre-winding or a first frame setting is stopped in the middle because a battery of the camera is taken out or because of exhaustion of the battery and after that another battery is loaded. The camera control device writes a pre-wind signal to an electrically rewritable non-volatile memory E.sup.2 PROM when a pre-winding is started and erases the pre-wind signal in the E.sup.2 PROM when the pre-winding is finished, and writes a first frame set signal to the E.sup.2 PROM when a first frame setting is started and erases the first frame set signal in the E.sup.2 PROM when the first frame setting is finished. If the pre-winding or the first frame setting is stopped in the middle, the pre-wind signal or the first frame set signal in the E.sup.2 PROM is not erased. The camera control device, responsive to loading of the battery to the camera, continues the pre-winding or the first frame setting when the pre-wind signal or the first frame set signal is left in the E.sup.2 PROM.
