A processing apparatus in a system in which a plurality of processing apparatuses are interconnected via a transmission medium. The apparatus includes a processor for requesting an access by outputting a virtual address, a local memory connected to the processor without an intermediary of the transmission medium and a first address convertor for converting the virtual address from the processor into a first real address for accessing the local memory. A second address convertor converts the virtual address from the processor into a first intermediate address, and outputs the first intermediate address to the transmission medium. A third address convertor converts a second intermediate address brought via the transmission medium to the processing apparatus from another one of the plurality of processing apparatuses, into a second real address for accessing the local memory.

Shared memory access method and apparatus with address translation

In an access method, with which a first processor in a first processor unit can access a memory in a second processor unit in a multi-processor system, a virtual address generated by the first processor is translated into an intermediate address common to the system. The generated intermediate address is output onto a system bus, and is fetched by the second processor unit. The fetched intermediate address is translated into a real address in the second processor. The memory is accessed using the translated real address.

Memory access method using intermediate addresses

An image processing apparatus in which a digital image data can be moved, rotated, enlarged/reduced with a variable magnification, and the like. This apparatus includes a generator to generate image data of at least one picture plane; a first memory to store the image data of a part of the picture plane; a processor for performing a coordinate converting process for the image data stored in the first memory; a second memory to store the result of the converting process by the processor; and a controller to control the storing operation by the first memory, the processing operation by the processor, and the storing operation by the second memory so as to repeatedly execute these operations a plurality of times. The processor rotates the image data and has a first calculating unit to calculate the rotation of the image data in the first memory and a second calculating unit to calculate an amount of parallel movement of the partial image data in association with the rotation of the image data. With this apparatus, e.g., the raster input image data can be real-time processed at a high speed by hardware consisting of a memory of a small capacity, a few multipliers, etc.

Image processing apparatus

There are image processing method and apparatus for use in digital copying apparatuses, facsimile apparatuses, etc. which handle an image signal. This apparatus comprises an edge detector to detect the edge portion of the image signal, a smoothing circuit to smooth the image signal, an edge emphasizer to emphasize the edge of the image signal, and a mixer to mix the output of the smoothing circuit and the output of the edge emphasizer. A mixture ratio of the output of the smoothing circuit and the output of the edge emphasizer is varied in response to the output of the edge detector. The edge detection of the edge detector is performed due to the linear differentiation. With this apparatus, the moire in the case of a mesh original image is removed and the characters and line drawings can be reproduced with a high degree of fidelity.

An image reading apparatus has a CCD sensor, a white standard plate of a uniform density, a shading data memory, an analog/log converter or a digital/log converter, and a shading correction circuit. Shading correction can be performed with a simple circuit and requiring only a small-capacity memory.

A paper feeder for an electronic copying machine or the like has a plurality of cassettes for storing paper sheets, feeding mechanisms for feeding the paper sheets from a selected cassette, detectors for detecting the size, feeding direction or presence or absence of the paper sheets in the selected cassette, a CPU for performing an automatic change from a cassette with no paper sheets to a cassette storing paper sheets of the same size and feeding direction, and an automatic changer for prohibiting or selecting the automatic changing mode. An accidental automatic change between the cassettes is prevented.

In a serial connection of plural sheet sorters, each sorter is capable of checking the state of downstream sorters and, in case an assigned sorter is not in a normal state, the sheets are stored in an immediately preceding sorter. In this manner it is made possible to prevent a situation where the function of the entire sorters is blocked by a single failure. Also sorters of desired number can be connected in series since same control circuits can be used in all sorters.

Recording apparatus

A color image recording apparatus records color images on a recording medium and includes a plurality of image forming media and respective devices for forming respective images each of a different color on each of the image forming media. Transfer apparatus are provided for transferring the images respectively formed on the media onto a recording medium which is conveyed past the image forming media and the transfer apparatus by a recording medium conveyor. A detector generates a position signal that indicates that the recording medium is at a predetermined position on a predetermined path upstream of the first image forming medium, the image on which is to be first transferred to the recording medium. A circuit designates an area on the recording medium to which the respective images are to be transferred and a controller controls the start timing of the formation of a respective image on the first image forming medium by the image forming device in accordance with the position signal generated by the detector and the area on the recording medium designated by the designating circuit. Thus, transfer of the respective color images to the designated area on the recording medium is accomplished in proper registration so that a clear color image is produced.
