A winding-type battery includes a battery case, a power generating element, a cap for blocking an opening of the battery case, and a gasket for insulating the battery case from the cap. The power generating element includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a separator interposed between them, and an electrolyte. The first electrode and the second electrode are wound via the separator to form an electrode group, and the first electrode is connected to the cap via a first current collecting lead, and the second electrode is connected to the battery case via a second current collecting lead. A groove is formed near the opening end of the battery case. The gasket includes: an annular seal portion interposed between a rim of the cap and the region from the groove to the end; and a tubular portion that is integrated with the seal portion, and is disposed closer to the electrode group than the seal portion is. The first current collecting lead is connected to the cap through a hollow in the tubular portion.

Wound battery

A battery includes: an electrode group including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode; an electrolyte; a container for accommodating the electrode group and the electrolyte; a sealing member for blocking an opening in the container; and a first lead for electrically connecting the first electrode to the sealing member. The first lead has a weld region welded to the sealing member, and the weld region has at least one first bump along the longitudinal direction of the first lead. The cross section of the boundary between the weld region and a non-weld region on the first electrode side has a projecting shape corresponding to the bump.

A winding-type battery includes a battery case, a power generating element, a cap for blocking an opening of the battery case, and a gasket for insulating the battery case from the cap. The first electrode is connected to the cap via a first current collecting lead, and the second electrode is connected to the battery case via a second current collecting lead. A groove is formed near the opening end of the battery case. The gasket includes: an annular seal portion interposed between a rim of the cap and the region from the groove to the end; and a tubular portion that is integrated with the seal portion, and is disposed closer to the electrode group than the seal portion is. The first current collecting lead is connected to the cap through a hollow in the tubular portion.

In a winding-type battery, the first electrode and the second electrode are wound via the separator to form an electrode group having first and second end surfaces. The first electrode includes a first current collector sheet, and a first active material layer formed on a surface of the first current collector sheet. A first current collecting lead is connected to the first electrode. The second electrode includes a second current collector sheet, and a second active material layer formed on a surface of the second current collector sheet. A second current collecting lead is connected to the second electrode. At an end of the first electrode that is disposed on the first end surface and/or an end of the first electrode that is disposed on the second end surface, at least a winding termination portion located on the outermost periphery of the electrode group has a notch.

A winding-type battery includes an electrode group that is formed by winding a first electrode and a second electrode via a separator and has a first end surface and a second end surface. The first electrode includes a first current collector sheet, and a first active material layer formed on its surface. The second electrode includes a second current collector sheet, and a second active material layer formed on its surface. The first current collector sheet includes, at its end disposed on the first end surface of the electrode group, a first uncoated portion having no first active material layer on either surface thereof. An edge surface of the first uncoated portion is at least partially covered with an insulating layer, and an end of the insulating layer projects more than an end of the separator on the first end surface.

Battery having separator protection provided to electrode

A cylindrical guide sleeve has a larger-diameter portion formed at an upper portion thereof, a smaller-diameter portion formed at a lower portion thereof, and a tapered portion formed therebetween. The smaller-diameter portion has an inner diameter substantially identical with or slightly larger than an outer diameter of a cylindrical battery casing. A lower spindle supports a bottom surface of the cylindrical battery casing. An upper spindle pushes a seal plate downward along an inner surface of the cylindrical guide sleeve. In this case, the seal plate is inclined in a floating condition with respect to an axial direction of the cylindrical guide sleeve and connected via a lead to an electrode assembly accommodated in the cylindrical battery casing. A guide actuator shifts the cylindrical guide sleeve upward so as to surround the seal plate in the larger-diameter portion. An upper spindle actuator shifts the upper spindle downward to cause a spherical bottom surface of the upper spindle to push and guide the seal plate toward an upper opening of the cylindrical battery casing via the tapered portion.
