A variable valve device of the invention has a structure in which, as connecting means for connecting a movable camlocated in an outer periphery of an outer camshaftand an inner camshaftlocated inside the outer camshaft, there are provided a pin-like memberthat is movably inserted so as to penetrate the movable cam, the outer camshaftand the inner camshaftalong a diametrical direction of a shaft memberthat is formed by turnably encasing the inner camshaftin the outer camshaft, and an escape-preventing portiondisposed in the end portion of the pin-like member. The movable camand the inner camshaftare thus connected together while preventing large press-fit load and axial force from acting on components.

A method for cooling hot reduced iron briquettes at low cost without degrading the strength is provided. The method includes a primary cooling step of cooling the hot reduced iron briquettes by steam at a cooling rate of 4.0&deg; C./s or less, a secondary cooling step of cooling the reduced iron briquettes by steam and sprayed water at a cooling rate of 4.0&deg; C./s or less, and a final cooling step of cooling the reduced iron briquettes by sprayed water at a cooling rate of 3.5&deg; C./s or more to a temperature in a final product temperature range. The steam generated by evaporation of sprayed water during the final cooling step is used in the primary and/or secondary cooling step.

Method for manufacturing reduced iron briquettes

A distributed data processing system is provided in which two computers, each running under a different operating system, are coupled so that jobs initiated by a first one of the computers can be executed on a second computer by using the resources of the second computer. This enables the user of the first computer to use the second computer under the environment of the first computer. The first computer acts as the interface between the user and the data processing system. Service programs running on the system can handle or provide for input/output operations during the execution of jobs on the second computer so that the jobs seem to the user of the first computer to be executed on the first computer. The system has means for creating a dummy file in the file system of one operating system which is used as a place holder for a corresponding file in a storage device attached to the other operating system, and accessed by programs controlled by that other operating system.
