A thin and large high toughness die-cast product is provided that is formed from an Al&#x2014;Mg casting alloy having the composition 3.5 wt %&#x2266;Mg&#x2266;4.5 wt %, 0.8 wt %&#x2266;Mn&#x2266;1.5 wt %, Si&#x3c;0.5 wt %, Fe&#x3c;0.5 wt %, a sum (Ti+Zr) of amounts of Ti and Zr added of equal to or greater than 0.3 wt %, and a ratio (Ti/Zr) of the amounts of Ti and Zr added of at least 0.3 but not more than 2, with the balance being Al.

A forming method wherein a billet (B,C) comprising a metal-based composite material () prepared by mixing an aluminum alloy () and a ceramic () is subjected to pressure forming to manufacture a formed article, which comprises carrying out the pressure forming by the use of different compression ratios for different portions of the formed article, wherein a compression ratio means the ratio of the height of a billet before the pressure forming to height of the billet after the pressure forming. The above forming method allows the manufacture of a formed article having different volume contents 8Vf) of the ceramic for different portions thereof.

The present invention ensures that the warping of an annular disk body of a brake disk, in the direction of a rotational axis, due to a friction heat, is inhibited to a large extent. The brake disk includes an aluminum alloy matrix, a plurality of alumina aggregates dispersed in the matrix, and a plurality of fine alumina grains. The alumina aggregates have an aspect ratio A larger than 1. In an annular disk body, the alumina aggregates are oriented with their lengthwise directions aligned with the radial direction of the disk body.

To inhibit the excessive wearing of a friction contact surface forming portion of a brake drum and a friction member by the abrading action of a worn powder and the like, and to reinforce the friction contact surface forming portion, in a drum body of a brake drum, an annular friction contact surface forming section includes a plurality of composite portions disposed in a circumferential direction thereof, each comprising a metal matrix and a large number of dispersions, and a plurality of metal portions formed only of a metal. Thus, it is possible to force a worn powder and the like into each of the metal portions of the friction contact surface forming section by the urging force of the friction member during a braking operation to retain the worn powder and the like.

An adhesive for a vehicular glass is disclosed which comprises urethane as a base material added with 2% to 8% by weight of a thermoplastic resin. The thermoplastic resin may be a polyester-based resin. The adhesive is heated to a temperature of 60.degree. C.-80.degree. C. and then applied to a peripheral edge of a windshield. The windshield is sucked by a suction cup and pressed against a window frame of a vehicle body. Thereafter, the adhesive is cooled by blowing air having a temperature on the order of 20.degree. C. thereat. The adhesive is forcibly cooled down to 50.degree. C. or lower in a short time, thereby exhibiting temporary retention property.

A friction material containing 0.85 to 30% by weight of carbon fibers and 2 to 20% by weight of aramid fibers for use as brake pads, brake linings, clutch facings and other mechanical component parts which are subjected to severe frictional contact with other mechanical component parts. The aramid fibers preferably consist of para-aramid fibers and/or a combination of chopped aramid fibers and fibrillar aramide fibers. There is a certain preferred range for the ratio between the aramid fiber content and the carbon fiber content. This friction material offers advantages in a high-temperature stability of the coefficient of friction, a favorable wear property, freedom from sticking and uneven wears, and superior anti-fade properties.

Improved friction pads for use with disc brake. The pad has a central main portion and a peripheral portion which are formed of different matrices having different compositions. The matrix of the central main portion contains a hard substance or substances having a specified range of hardness whereas the matrix of the peripheral portion does not contain such hard substances or contains in only a limited smaller amount than the central main portion. This prevents the brake disc from wearing due to friction with the pad and thus avoids uneven abrasion of the brake disc.

A disc brake assembly for the front or rear wheel of a motorcycle including a brake disc having pairs of projections located on its periphery at 120.degree. intervals. The pairs of projections may be placed on either the outer periphery or the inner periphery of the brake disc. The projections define open ended recesses receiving bosses formed integrally with the wheel hub, and partially surrounded by hardened retainers and structural members. A bolt threaded into each boss prevents disassembly of the bosses and recesses but is not subjected to forces caused by thermal expansion of the brake disc during braking. One or more hydraulically activated stationary calipers clamp non-rotary brake pads frictionally against opposite faces of each brake disc. Provisions are made for cooling the brake disc by atmospheric air.
