The cap structure includes a nut engaged with a bolt end portion formed in an end of a rotating shaft of a vehicle-use electric rotating machine to fix a pulley. The nut has a polygonal outer periphery including a step portion projecting radially outward at an axial position closer to a seating surface of the nut than an axial center of the nut. The cap structure further includes a cap for covering the nut and the bolt end portion engaged with the nut and protruding from the nut. The cap is made of casting resin so as to have a polygonal inner periphery and an annular claw portion, the number of sides of the polygonal inner periphery being equal to a natural number-multiple of the number of sides of the outer periphery of the nut.

Cap structure for pulley-fixing nut of vehicle-use electric rotating machine

A vehicle rotating electrical machine includes a pulley unit and a cap that covers an opening portion of the pulley unit. The pulley unit includes a pulley shaft that has a hollow cylindrical shape and is mechanically connected to a rotation shaft. On an inner peripheral surface of the pulley shaft, a polygonally-shaped hole portion, a first and a second circular hole portions, and an inner diameter thread portion are formed. The cap includes a planar section and a plurality of pillar sections. The planar section covers the opening portion. The pillar sections extend from the planar section to the inner diameter thread portion, and include a bulge portion that bulges outward in a radial direction of the pulley shaft. The bulge portion is located at a position corresponding to the second circular hole portion in a state where the opening portion is covered by the planar section.

Vehicle rotating electrical machine and cap structure of pulley for the same

An automotive alternator according to the present invention includes a rotary shaft, slip rings, a brush holder, brushes, a cover, a seal member, a cooling air flow path, and a water shield. The slip rings are fixed to an end portion of the rotary shaft. The brushes are accommodated in the brush holder and so held by the brush holder as to establish sliding contacts with the slip rings to excite the automotive alternator. The cover covers the end portion of the rotary shaft, the slip rings, the brush holder, and the brushes. The seal member is interposed between the brush holder and the cover. The cooling air flow path is formed between the seal member and one of the brush holder and the cover to supply cooling air to the brushes. The water shield works to prevent water from entering into an entrance of the cooling air flow path.

Automotive alternator having water shield for protecting brushes from water damage

A stator having an armature winding and a rotor having a field winding are contained in an alternator housing. A cooling fan is connected to at least one axial end of the rotor, and a plurality of windows are formed in an axial end wall of the housing to face the cooling fan. A shroud surface facing the cooling fan is formed at a radial outside of each window. The opening of the window is so made that it gradually decreases along a rotational direction of the cooling fan, while the shroud surface area gradually increases along the same direction. In this manner, pressure changes in a space between the fan blades and the fan shroud are smoothened, and thereby noises generated by the cooling fan are effectively reduced.
