A vehicular starting and charging rotary electric machine includes a rotor, a stator, brackets, a brush, and a rotation detection sensor. The rotor has a field winding. The stator has a stator winding. The brackets supports the rotor and the stator. One end of the brush is brought into contact with the rotor to supply field current to the field winding of the rotor. The rotation detecting sensor is arranged coaxially with a rotating shaft of the rotor, for detecting a state of the rotor and functioning as a motor or a generator. The magnetic pole position detecting sensor is integrally fixed to the bracket.

Vehicular starting and charging rotary electric machine

A rotary electric machine for being mounted on an internal combustion engine of a vehicle or the like. The rotary electric machine includes a rotation shaft rotatably supported by a bracket; a rotor fixed to the rotation shaft; a stator which has a stator core disposed opposite to the outer periphery of the rotor and a stator winding mounted onto the stator core, and which is supported by the bracket; and a pulley engaged with an end of the rotation shaft to rotate integrally with the rotation shaft. A control apparatus and a control method of an on-vehicle dynamo-electric machine are provided for efficiently controlling functions as a starter-motor and as a charging generator. In case that the dynamo-electric machine acts as a charging generator, when a rotation speed of the dynamo-electric machine is not higher than a predetermined value, a power is generated by applying a compensation current from and inverter to an armature coil for phase control. On the other hand, when a rotation speed of the dynamo-electric machine is not lower than a predetermined value, operation of the inverter is stopped. Thus, controlling a current applied to a field coil by a field coil current control means generates a predetermined target voltage.

An output power control device for an automotive AC generator includes a field current limiter circuit 9 for controlling the duty factor of the power transistor 305 coupled in series with the field coil 102A of the AC generator 1A, which is supplied with a maximum field current twice the conventional level. A frequency-to-voltage converter 903 converts the input frequency to a voltage corresponding to the rpm of the AC generator 1A, and a comparator 909 compares the sawtooth waveform generated by a sawtooth waveform generator 908 with the output of the frequency-to-voltage converter 903, the upper level of which is limited under a predetermined level by resistors 904 through 906 and a diode 907. When the rpm of the AC generator 1A exceeds a predetermined frequency, the pulse train generated by the comparator 909 reduces the duty factor of the power transistor 305, thereby controlling the level of the output current generated by the AC generator 1A.
