An imaging apparatus includes: a diffuse-reflector which covers an imaging space on a pathway that a human passes through, from at least a side out of both sides of the pathway, and includes a reflector which diffusely reflects a sub-terahertz wave; a light source which emits a sub-terahertz wave onto the reflector; and a detector which receives a reflected wave of the sub-terahertz wave which has been emitted from the light source, diffusely reflected by the reflector, and reflected by the human, and detects an intensity of the reflected wave received. The diffuse-reflector includes a visible light transmissive area which transmits visible light.

A planar light source emits planar light by power supplied from a mounting member. The planar light source includes an engaging part, a planar-light-emitting panel having a light-emitting surface, and a connecting unit disposed between the engaging part and the planar-light-emitting panel. The engaging part forms a portion of a power supply path for supplying power from the mounting member to the planar-light-emitting panel. The planar-light-emitting panel includes a planar-light-emitting tile and a translucent plate, where one main surface of the planar-light-emitting tile includes a light-emitting region. The planar-light-emitting panel emits, in a lighting state, the planar light from the light-emitting region of the planar-light-emitting tile through the translucent plate. An output of the planar light from the planar light source is adjusted by pressing the light-emitting surface.

The head-up display includes a display device, a relay optical system, and a projection optical system. The display device displays an image. The relay optical system provides the image displayed by the display device as an intermediate image. The present disclosure provides a virtual image display apparatus, head-up display system, and vehicle that distribute a spatially divided parallax image between a left eye and right eye of a user appropriately. The virtual image display apparatus according to the present disclosure includes a display device configured to spatially divide with a first pitch and to output right-eye images and left-eye images, first optical members periodically disposed with a second pitch, distributing light based on the output from the display device between a right-eye direction and a left-eye direction, and a second optical member configured to reflect or refract, by positive power, the light distributed between the right-eye direction and the left-eye direction by the first optical members. The first pitch is narrower than the second pitch.

Virtual image display apparatus, head-up display system, and vehicle

The present disclosure provides an image display apparatus having excellent light converging characteristics. The image display apparatus includes: a liquid crystal prism element including a prism array in which a plurality of prisms are arranged, a liquid crystal layer laminated on the prism array, and electrodes provided at position corresponding to the respective prisms which form the prism array; a control section configured to control a voltage to be applied to each electrode; and a position detection section configured to detect a viewing position of a user. The control section is able to apply the same or different voltages to the respective electrodes provided at the positions corresponding to the respective prisms, on the basis of a result of the detection of the viewing position by the position detection section.

An image display apparatus according to the present disclosure includes: an image display panel; a backlight device; a first optical element located between the image display panel and the backlight device and configured to deflect a light incident thereon; a second optical element located between the first optical element and the image display panel and configured to change a deflection angle of emitted light according to a voltage applied thereto; a plurality of first lenses located between the first optical element and the backlight device; a plurality of second lenses located between the second optical element and the image display panel; a position detection section configured to detect a viewing position of a viewer; and a control section configured to control the voltage applied to the second optical element, according to the detected viewing position. The first lenses and the second lenses constitute an afocal optical system.

A liquid crystal optical element according to the present disclosure includes: a prism array composed of a plurality of prisms that have ridge lines extending in a first direction and are arranged in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction; a liquid crystal layer provided on the prism array; and an electrode via which a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer. When the voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer is 0 volt, long axes of liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer are oriented so as to be inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the first direction in a plane orthogonal to the second direction.

Liquid crystal optical element and image display apparatus including the same

An image display apparatus capable of ensuring a wide view range is provided. The image display apparatus includes: an image display panel; a backlight located on a back surface side of the image display panel; prisms located between the image display panel and the backlight and configured to deflect incident light; a liquid crystal layer located between the image display panel and the backlight and configured to change a deflection direction of emitted light by changing a refractive index thereof according to a voltage applied thereto; a position detection section configured to detect a position of a user; and a control section configured to control the voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer, on the basis of information of the position of the user detected by the position detection section.

A light deflection element is capable of deflecting incident light so as to follow a position of an observer and suppressing reduction in intensity of light that reaches eyes of the observer regardless of their position. The light deflection element includes: a first optical element configured to deflect incident light; a second optical element configured to change a deflection direction of emitted light by changing a refractive index thereof according to a voltage applied thereto; a third optical element; and a control section configured to control the voltage applied to the second optical element. At least one of interfaces between the first and second optical elements and the second and third optical elements is an aspheric surface. The aspheric surface has an optical power that compensates enlargement of the emitted light which is caused by refractive index distribution caused when a voltage is applied to the second optical element.

Light deflection element and image display apparatus using the same

The present invention aims to provide a luminescent system enabling contactless power supply, having a high ratio of light emission region, and securing a desired quantity of emitted light. The luminescent system is constituted by an organic EL device and a fixed-side wall surface. The device is formed by stacking an electrode layer of an anode side, an organic light-emitting layer, and a transparent electrode layer of a cathode side on a substrate and being sealed by a sealing part. Electrodes with a planar expanse are stacked on a face near the wall surface and are arranged so as to overlap a light emitting region where the organic light-emitting layer is disposed. Electrodes with a planar expanse are embedded in the wall surface. A power unit is electrically connected between the electrodes. The electrodes of the device and of the wall surface are opposite each other across a flooring material.

Provided is an organic EL device which can prevent invasion of moisture to an organic EL element.
