A variable valve timing control device includes a housing member, a rotor member assembled to the housing member so as to be rotatable relative thereto and including vane portions each forming an advanced angle chamber and a retarded angle chamber within the housing member, a stopper formed on the convex portion for restricting a relative rotation between the housing member and the rotor member, a lock mechanism for restricting the relative rotation by a lock member, and a fluid pressure circuit for controlling an operation oil to be supplied to or discharged from the advanced angle chamber, the retarded angle chamber, and the lock mechanism. When the relative rotation is restricted, the lock member is in contact with an inner peripheral face of the receiving hole on the advanced angle side and the retarded angle side between an opening portion and a bottom portion of the receiving hole.

Variable valve timing control device

A variable valve timing control device includes a rotation member unitary fixed to a rotation shaft for controlling a valve timing assembled to a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine to be rotatable, a rotation transmission member engaged with the rotation member to be relatively rotatable, a vane provided on either one of the rotation member or the rotation transmission member, a hydraulic pressure chamber formed between the rotation member and the rotation transmission member and is divided into an advance angle chamber and a retarded angle chamber by the vane, and a detection member for detecting a relative rotation phase between the rotation member and a crankshaft. The detection member is press fitted into a cylindrical portion formed in an axial direction of the rotation member and the rotation member is fixed to the rotation member by a tightening member.

Variable valve timing device

A valve timing control device includes a rotary member rotatably arranged in a torque transmitting route between a crankshaft and a camshaft of an internal combustion engine, a rotational transmitting member rotatable relative to the rotary member, a pressure chamber formed by the rotary member and the rotational transmitting member, a vane provided on the rotary member or the rotational transmitting member to divide the pressure chamber between an advancing chamber and a delaying chamber, a helical spring having a coil portion, a first end portion engaging the rotary member, and a second end portion engaging the rotational transmitting member to urge the rotary member in the advancing direction to expand the advancing chamber. One of the end portions of the helical spring extends on an imagined radial plane arranged in the radial direction of the coil portion.

Valve timing control device

A valve timing control device incorporates a rotary member which rotates with one of a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine and a camshaft thereof, a rotational transmitting member which rotates with the other of the camshaft and the crankshaft; a vane provided on the rotary member; a pressure chamber formed between the rotary member and the rotational transmitting member, and divided into an advancing chamber and a delaying chamber by the vane; an oil retainer disposed between one axial end of the rotational transmitting member and one axial end of the rotary member; and a pressurized portion disposed between the other axial end of the rotational transmitting member and the other axial end of the rotary member.

A valve timing control device for securing a rotor to a cam shaft wherein a bolt member is used which is to be coupled thereto is disclosed. The bolt member has a built-in spool valve. Between the spool valve and a rod of an electromagnetic actuator, there is provided an adjusting member for controlling axial displacement of the spool valve. Such a structure facilitates an assembly operation of the valve timing control device.

A variable valve timing controller according to the present invention comprises a locking mechanism for holding the vane in the middle of the pressure chamber until the internal combustion engine starts; and a damper for sealing up one of the advance chamber and the delay chamber and for slowing the relative rotation between the rotational shaft and the rotation-transmitting member. According to the present invention, the locking mechanism maintains the vane in the middle of the pressure chamber until the internal combustion engine starts. Therefore, the vane cannot vibrate even when unstable transitional pressure is supplied to the pressure chamber so that no undesirable noise shall be generated. Further, the valve timing may be further delayed after the internal combustion engine starts since the vane is maintained in the middle of the pressure chamber. Therefore, the valve timing may be consistently optimized not only for easy engine starting but also for the high-speed operation of the internal combustion engine. Thus, the volumetric efficiency can be improved by the inertia of the air intake under high-speed operation of the internal combustion engine.

Variable valve timing controller

A valve timing control device includes a rotor fixed on a cam shaft, a housing member rotatably mounted on the cam shaft so as to surround the rotor, a chamber defined between the housing member and the rotor and having a pair of circumferentially opposed walls, a vane mounted on the rotor and extended outwardly therefrom in the radial direction into the chamber so as to divide each of chamber into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber, a fluid supplying device for supplying fluid under pressure to at least a selected one of the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber, a locking mechanism for connecting the housing member and the rotor and a canceling device for canceling the locking mechanism and for keeping the locking mechanism canceling by the fluid pressure of the fluid supplying device.

A valve timing control device includes a rotor fixed on a cam shaft rotatably supported on a cylinder head of an engine so as to be accommodated in the cylinder head, a housing member rotatably mounted on the cam shaft so as to surround the rotor, plural chambers defined between the housing member and the rotor each of which having a pair of circumferentially opposed walls, plural vanes mounted on the rotor and extended outwardly therefrom in the radial direction into the chambers so as to divide each of chamber into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber and a fluid supplying device for supplying fluid under pressure to at least a selected one of the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber.

A valve timing control device includes a rotation shaft for opening and closing a valve, a rotation transmitting member rotatably mounted on the rotation shaft, a vane connected to one of the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member, a chamber defined between the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member and divided into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber by the vane extending into the chamber, a first fluid passage in fluid communication with the first pressure chamber for supplying and discharging the fluid therein and therefrom, respectively, a second fluid passage in fluid communication with the second pressure chamber for supplying and discharging the fluid therein and therefrom, a retracting hole formed on one of the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member, a locking pin slidably fitted in the retracting hole and urged toward the other of the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member, a receiving hole formed on the other of the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member and in which a part of the locking pin is fitted when the relative phase between the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member is in a predetermined phase, and a third fluid passage in fluid communication with the receiving hole only when the relative phase between the rotation shaft and the rotation transmitting member is in the predetermined phase.

A variable valve timing device includes a rotation shaft and a rotation transmitting member rotatably mounted thereon so as to define a pressure chamber between the shaft and the member. The pressure chamber is divided by a vane extending from the shaft into an advance angle space and a delay angle space. Differentiating pressures in both spaces establishes rotation of the shaft, which enables an adjustment of the phase angle between the shaft and the member. A retracting bore and a receiving bore are formed in the member and the shaft, respectively. A locking valve and a piston are fitted in the retracting bore and the receiving bore, respectively. A fluid passage is formed which extends to a boundary portion between the piston and the locking valve.

A valve timing control device comprising a rotor fixed on a cam shaft of an engine, a housing member rotatably mounted on the cam shaft so as to surround the rotor is disclosed. The valve timing control device also comprises a chamber defined between the housing member and the rotor and having a pair of circumferentially opposed walls, a vane mounted on the rotor and extended outwardly therefrom, in the radial direction into the chamber so as to divide the chamber into a first pressure chamber and a second pressure chamber, a fluid supplying means for supplying fluid under pressure to at least a selected one of the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber and a force means for expanding one of the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber.

A valve timing adjusting mechanism for an internal combustion engine includes an internal gear mounted on either one of a crankshaft or a cam shaft of the engine for rotation therewith, an external gear assembled in surrounding relationship with the internal gear, the external gear being driving connected to the other one of the crankshaft and camshaft for rotation therewith, and an intermediate gear set disposed in an annular space between the internal and external gears to be moved by fluid under pressure applied thereto in an axial direction for effecting relative rotation of the internal and external gears. The intermediate gear set is composed of a primary gear formed with internal teeth in meshing engagement with external teeth of the internal gear and external teeth in meshing engagement with internal teeth of the external gear, an auxiliary gear formed with internal teeth in meshing engagement with the external teeth of the internal gear and external teeth in meshing engagement with the internal teeth of the external gear, and a plurality of circumferentially equally spaced retainer elements interposed between the primary and auxiliary gears, the retainer elements being adapted to adjust an axial distance between the primary and auxiliary gears and retained in a position where backlashes at the meshed portions of the component gears are eliminated.

Valve timing adjusting mechanism for internal combustion engine

A valve timing control device includes an input member to which a driving force is applied thereto, an output member having on its axis a cam for opening and closing a valve, a transmission member for transmitting torque between the output member and the input member and for changing the rotational position of the output member in relation to the input member in accordance with the position thereof, a slit member provided with a helical slit and secured to the input member and a passive member provided with a helical spline superposed with the helical slit of the slit member and secured to the output member. A base portion which is allowed to engage the helical slit of the slit member and a toothed portion which is allowed to engage with the helical spline of the passive member are formed in the transmission member so that the slit member is connected to the passive member via the slit member.

A variable valve timing system includes helical splines to effect a relative rotation between an input member and an output member. The output member drives an intake and an exhaust valve against the urging force of a valve spring. The valve spring gives an undesired torque to the output member. The helical splines have backlash and the undesired torque causes a hitting noise. Therefore, a guide depression filled with viscous fluid is formed in front of the input member and a projection located and moved in the depression is formed in front of the output member. The depression and the projection with the viscous fluid form a damper to absorb the undesired torque.

Variable valve timing system having rotational vibration damper

A water pump apparatus has an impeller mounted on a driven rotational shaft rotatably supported by mutually spaced bearing portions in a body member. In order to lubricate the sliding bearing surfaces between the bearing portions and the rotational shaft, oil seals surrounding the rotational shaft define first and second oil tanks, while a third oil tank is defined between the bearing portions. Spiral oil circulating grooves pump oil from the first and second tanks along the sliding bearing surface to the third tank in order to lubricate the sliding bearing surfaces. Oil passages in the bearing portions permit oil to be returned to the first and second tanks. An annular flange fitted on the rotational shaft fits between the bearing portions to provide axial bearing support for the rotational shaft. Excess oil pressure arising due to heat build up is relieved by a check valve mounted in the body member.
