A computer is provided for a network communication system of a motor vehicle. The system includes a central gateway and a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) coupled to the central gateway. The computer includes one or more processors and a computer readable medium (CRM) coupled to the processors. The processor is programmed to receive an input database including a plurality of messages with a plurality of unique periodic rates. The processor is further programmed to assign a plurality of delayed start times for associated messages, with a number of the messages transmitted at each of the delayed starting times being limited to a predetermined maximum threshold. The processor is further programmed to generate an output database including the delayed start times, such that the ECUs are coded based on the output database to transmit the messages at the associated delayed start times to decrease a congestion of the system.

Network communication system and process to optimize network performance

A system and method for determining when to reset a controller in response to a bus off state. The method includes determining that the controller has entered a first bus off state and immediately resetting the controller. The method further includes setting a reset timer in response to the controller being reset, determining whether the controller has entered a subsequent bus off state, and determining whether a reset time. The method immediately resets the controller in response to the subsequent bus off state if the reset time is greater than the first predetermined time interval, and resets the controller in response to the subsequent bus off state after a second predetermined time interval has elapsed if the reset time is less than the first predetermined time interval.

Approach for controller area network bus off handling

A method of detecting and mitigating an unintended active state of an in-vehicle communication network. The in-vehicle communication network includes a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) communicating over a controller area network bus system. Each ECU includes both transmitting and receiving capabilities, and is configured with a communication protocol that provides guidelines for exchanging messages with other ECUs within the communication system. Each ECU enters a communication kernel active state for communicating on the bus. Virtual networks within the communication system are identified. Each virtual network includes a collection of signals involving respective ECUs whose transmission and reception are started and stopped collectively as a unit. Each respective virtual network that is active by fault is detected. Each faulty active virtual network is deactivated.
