A process for preparing 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolan-2-one comprising adding 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolan-2-one to ethylene carbonate in an amount of from 3 to 20% by weight relative to the ethylene carbonate as a solvent for the ethylene carbonate, and introducing fluorine or a mixture containing fluorine in an inert gas is introduced into the resulting solution at 15 to 45&#xb0; C.

Process for preparing 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolan-2-one

Acids can be removed from aprotic organic liquids by bringing the liquids into contact with polyalkyleneimines that have been applied to a support. Polyethyleneimine that has been applied to amorphous silicon dioxide is particularly suitable for this method. The method can be used, for example, to eliminate acidic components from fluorinated esters.

Trifluoroethanol can be isolated from organic liquids that are contaminated by trifluoroethanol by bringing the contaminated liquid into contact with a molecular sieve having a pore size ranging between 0.5 and 1.0 nm, e.g., with molecular sieve 13X. This enables, for example, trifluoroacetic acid trifluoroethyl esters, bis(trifluoroethyl)carbonate or trifluoroethyl esters of phosphoric, phosphonic or phosphinic acid to be purified.
