A silicone adhesive composition used for adhering a device or a substance to a wet surface contains (i) a silicone resin that is cohydrolysis product of a trialkyl hydrolyzable silane and an alkyl silicate in which the cohydrolysis product contains a plurality of silicon-bonded hydroxy groups; (ii) a linear organopolysiloxane fluid containing terminal silicon-bonded hydroxy groups having a viscosity above 200,000 mm/at 25&#xb0; C.; (iii) a trialkylsiloxy terminated polyorganosiloxane fluid having a viscosity of 100,000-600,000 mm/at 25&#xb0; C.; (iv) a water soluble muco-adhesive polymer selected from the group consisting of a poly(ethylene oxide) polymer having a molecular weight of 100,000 to 8,000,000, an acrylic acid polymer having a molecular weight of 500,000 to 4,500,000,000, and a hydroxyethylcellulose polymer having a molecular weight of 90,000 to 1,300,000,000; and optionally, (v) a solvent selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, volatile linear and cyclic silicone compounds. Other components such as a silicone polyether, a silicone wax, a drug, an excipient, and/or an active ingredient can also be included.

A formulation for depositing a film on a substrate comprising 5 to79.9 wt. % of an alkylene trialkoxy terminated polysiloxane; 0.01 to 5 wt. % of a catalyst; 20 to 94.99 to wt % of a volatile diluent, and, optionally, 0.01 to 5 wt. % of an alkoxysilane and 0.1 to 25 wt % of a filler. The formulations are especially valuable for forming films to be used in personal care or healthcare applications.

A transdermal drug delivery device for the controlled transdermal delivery of an active pharmaceutical agent. The device comprises a drug delivery device comprising an active pharmaceutical agent and a means for its controlled delivery through the skin; and (B) a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive for maintaining contact between the device and the skin of a wearer. The silicone pressure sensitive adhesive comprises silicone resin copolymer and a polydiorganosiloxane and has a silanol concentration in the range of between about 8000 and about 13,000 ppm. The present invention also relates to methods for producing the above silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions.

Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions for transdermal drug delivery devices

A pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprises a mixture of (A) a silicate resin, (B) a silicone fluid, and (C) a thermoplastic multi-segmented copolymer which is a product of the reaction between a diisocyanate and a reactive polyorganosiloxane having two groups reactive with isocyanate thereon. The thermoplastic multi-segmented copolymer comprises from about 1 to about 40 weight percent hard segments derived from reactants selected from the group consisting of organic diisocyanates, organic diols, and organic diamines and from about 60 to about 99 weight percent soft segments comprising from about 15 to about 99 weight percent, based on the weight of the thermoplastic multi-segmented copolymer, of polyorganosiloxane units and from about 0 to about 70 weight percent, based on the weight of the thermoplastic multi-segmented copolymer, of polyalkylene oxide units.

The instant invention pertains to a hot-melt pressure sensitive adhesive composition wherein the composition is comprised of a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive selected from the group consisting of a mixture of (i) a silicone resin and (ii) a silicone fluid and a condensed product of (i) and (ii); the silicone pressure sensitive adhesive exhibiting tackiness and adhesiveness; the silicone pressure sensitive adhesive being blended with (iii) from about 1 to 20 weight percent, based on the total weight of (i) and (ii), of a siloxylated polyether wax. The instant invention also encompasses method of using the composition, methods of making hot-melt silicone pressure sensitive adhesive-coated substrates, and devices made using the composition.

The instant invention pertains to a hot-melt pressure sensitive adhesive composition wherein the composition is comprised of a mixture of (i) a silicone resin and (ii) a silicone fluid, the mixture exhibiting tackiness and adhesiveness, the mixture being blended with (B) from about 1.0 to 20 weight percent, based on the total weight of the mixture of (i) and (ii), of a siloxylated allyloxypropane diol copolymer. Hot-melt silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions containing alkylmethylsiloxane waxes and methods of using the compositions are disclosed. The hot-melt silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions include a mixture of (i) a silicate resin, (ii) a silicone fluid, and (iii) an alkylmethylsiloxane wax having a melting point of between 30.degree. C. and 70.degree. C. The alkylmethylsiloxane wax decreases dynamic viscosity of the adhesive compositions at temperatures ranging from about 50.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C.

Hot-melt silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions containing alkylmethylsiloxane waxes, methods of using the compositions and devices made using the compositions are disclosed. The hot-melt silicone pressure sensitive adhesive compositions include a mixture of (i) a silicate resin, (ii) a silicone fluid, and (iii) an alkylmethylsiloxane wax having a melting point of between 30.degree. C. and 70.degree. C. The alkylmethylsiloxane wax decreases dynamic viscosity of the adhesive at temperatures ranging from about 50.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C.

Adhesive compositions comprising blends of polyethylene oxide-grafted silicone polymers with resinous copolymers are disclosed. The adhesive compositions enhance release, in a controlled fashion, of bioactive or chemical agents blended or otherwise dispersed through the compositions. Transdermal drug delivery devices incorporating the adhesive compositions are also disclosed.

This invention relates to a method of surface treating particulate inorganic fillers with a surface-treating agent which is an equilibrated reaction mixture consisting essentially of R.sub.2 SiO.sub.2/2 units, RSiO.sub.3/2 units and CH.sub.3 O.sub.1/2 radicals wherein the mixture contains A moles of R.sub.2 SiO.sub.2/2 units per mole of RSiO.sub.3/2 units and B moles of CH.sub.3 O.sub.1/2 radicals, A having an average value of from 0.5 to 10 and B having an average value of from 3 to 6, the value of B being related to A such that when A=0.5, B=6 and when A=10, B=3, and R being a hydrocarbon radical of from 1 to 10 inclusive carbon atoms or a haloalkyl radical of from 1 to 10 inclusive carbon atoms. Reinforcing silica fillers, surface-treated with such equilibrated reaction mixtures can be compounded with polydiorganosiloxanes curable to elastomers and cured to obtain silicone elastomers possessing high optical clarity and physical properties which make the cured elastomer uniquely suitable for use as prosthetic devices for use on or within the body.
