The present invention relates to orthopedic casting materials having reduced tack and methods for preparing and using such orthopedic casting materials, wherein the materials comprise a nonwoven, stretchable fabric which is impregnated with a curable prepolymer resin. The nonwoven fabric comprises fiber bundles and apertures between the fiber bundles, with each of the fiber bundles comprising a plurality of fibers having interstices therebetween. The curable prepolymer resin is impregnated into the nonwoven fabric such that the interstices between the fibers receive the resin, while leaving the apertures between fiber bundles substantially unoccluded. Such orthopedic casting materials are relatively inexpensive and exhibit improved properties.

Curable resin coated sheets having reduced tack

A curable resin coated sheet useful as an orthopedic bandage which has reduced tack is provided. The resin coated sheet is pre-lubricated with a lubricant which is (a) bonded to the resin, (b) added to the resin or applied to the surface of the coated sheet, or (c) a combination of (a) and (b). The lubricant is present in an amount to reduce the kinetic coefficient of friction of a surface of the coated sheet to less than 1.2.

A combination of materials that can be used to form a splint or protective covering including a support mat including a water hardenable resin impregnated fabric with water restricting film along at least one of its major surfaces, and a pressure sensitive adhesive coated padding that can be adhered to the support mat after the fabric is exposed to water so that the resultant laminate can be applied to a person with a dry surface of the padding against his skin.

Combinations of materials and method for forming a splint

An improved resin-coated fiberglass knit tape is disclosed which is highly extensible in the lengthwise direction and heat-set to alleviate fraying at cut ends. Heat-setting with essentially no tension on the tape accounts for retention of good extensibility. The invention is especially applicable to the field of orthopedic casting tape.

Resin-coated extensible heat-set fiberglass knit tape

Composition for effectively sealing the surface of a substrate from penetration by solvents commonly used in automotive primer, paint and paint thinners. The coating composition is particularly useful for providing a sealed surface for priming and topcoating reaction injected molded urethane, reinforced reaction injection molded urethane, and other substrates which are sensitive to the organic solvents normally present in automotive primer and paint. The composition for sealing the surface of the substrate comprises a urethane polymer, water, and a monohydric alcohol having less than seven carbon atoms.
