The disclosure relates to a synthetic closure for a product-retaining container constructed for being inserted and securely retained in a portal-forming neck of said container, said closure comprising at least a core member comprising at least one thermoplastic polymer, and at least one peripheral layer at least partially surrounding and intimately bonded to at least one surface of the core member, said peripheral layer comprising at least one thermoplastic polymer, wherein the synthetic closure is formed by extrusion, and at least one of the core member and the peripheral layer comprises a plurality of cells, and wherein the synthetic closure comprises cork powder.

Closure for a product-retaining container

Container closures wherein at least one void comprised in the closure is at least partially filled with a gas or gaseous mixture which by composition or pressure is different from air are disclosed. The oxygen content of said gas can be lower than the oxygen content of air. Through use of such closures for sealing closed containers, the amount of air and therefore oxygen that enters the closed container through closure desorption can be effectively controlled, changed, or even largely eliminated.

Closures for a product retaining container and related systems and methods

A synthetic closure for a product-retaining container is constructed for being inserted and securely retained in a portal-forming neck of said container, said closure comprising at least a core member comprising at least one cycloolefin-based copolymer.

By providing a synthetic closure which comprises at least one thermoplastic polymer and, as an additive, at least one fatty acid derivative, in particular a fatty acid ester or a fatty acid amide such as a stearamide, a synthetic closure is attained which achieved substantially enhanced properties. In particular, it has been found that the oxygen transfer rate of the closure is reduced substantially, thus reducing unwanted oxidation of wine. Furthermore, the use of a fatty acid derivative additive improves the performance characteristics of synthetic corks, such as extraction force, ovality control, diameter control and length control.

Synthetic closure

A closure for a container, such as, for example, a wine bottle, is provided. In one embodiment, the closure includes an oxidant releasing agent that is adapted to release oxygen into an interior portion of the container according to a predefined desired profile. In another embodiment, the closure comprises a gas containing reservoir, a membrane and a barrier layer, the membrane allowing an at least partial exchange of gas between the inside of the reservoir and the inside of the container, and the barrier layer at least partially preventing exchange of gas between the outside of the closure and the inside of the reservoir.

Polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymers, methods for the preparation thereof, and articles derived therefrom

A thermoplastic composition comprises a polycarbonate, and an aromatic sulfonate compound of formula(Y)&#x2014;Ar&#x2014;(Z&#x2014;S(O)&#x2014;X)wherein each X is independently a substituted or unsubstituted C-Calkyl, substituted or unsubstituted C-Carylalkyl, substituted or unsubstituted C-Caryl, or substituted or unsubstituted C-Calkylaryl; Z is &#x2014;O&#x2014;, or substituted or unsubstituted &#x2014;(O&#x2014;C&#x2014;)&#x2014;O&#x2014;, wherein w is 1 to 20; Ar is a C-Caromatic group; m is 0-3 and n is 3-6; and each Y is independently C-Calkyl, substituted C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, C-Calkyl-substituted C-Caryl, halogen, nitro, C-Calkoxycarbonyl, C-Calkoxy, or C-Cacyl, and further wherein a molded article having a thickness of 3.2&#xb1;0.12 millimeters and consisting of the polycarbonate, aromatic sulfonate compound, and an effective amount of each of a mold-release agent and an antioxidant has, after exposure to a total gamma radiation dose of 83 kGy and when measured according to ASTM D1925-70, an increase in yellowness index (dYI) of less than or equal to 45, when compared to the unexposed molded article. Methods of making the thermoplastic composition, and articles prepared therefrom, are also disclosed.

Ionizing radiation stable thermoplastic composition, method of making, and articles formed therefrom

A thermoplastic composition comprises a copolycarbonate comprising 25 to 100 mole percent of a first carbonate unit derived from a dihydroxy aromatic compound having the formula wherein Rand Rare Calkyl, T is a Ccycloalkylene, a Ccylcloalkylidene, a Calkylene, a Calkylidene, a Carylene, a Carylalkylene, Carylalkylidene, a Calkylarylene, or a Carylenealkyl, and r and s are each independently 1 to 4, and r and s are 1 to 4; and 0 to 75 mole percent of a second carbonate unit, wherein the first carbonate unit and second carbonate unit are not identical; a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer comprising 0.15 to 30 weight percent of a polysiloxane block comprising siloxane units of the formula wherein E is on average of 4 to 60 units, and 70 to 99.85 weight percent of a third carbonate unit, wherein an article having a thickness of 3.2 mm and molded from the thermoplastic composition has a Dynatup total energy of greater than 50 Joules, as measured at a constant speed of 3.3 to 3.6 m/sec at 23&#xb0; C. according to ASTM D3763-02. A method of making and articles prepared therefrom are also disclosed.

Polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer compositions and articles formed therefrom

A thermoplastic composition comprising a polycarbonate, and an aromatic sulfonate compound of formula:Ar&#x2014;S(O)&#x2014;O&#x2014;L&#x2014;O&#x2014;S(O)&#x2014;Arwherein each Aris each independently a substituted or unsubstituted Caryl group, and L is a branched, substituted or unsubstituted divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon, wherein a molded article having a thickness of 3.2&#xb1;0.12 millimeters and consisting of the polycarbonate, the aromatic sulfonate compound, and an effective amount of each of an aliphatic diol, a mold release agent, and an antioxidant has, after exposure to a total gamma radiation dose of 83 kGy and when measured according to ASTM D1925-70, an increase in yellowness index (dYI) of less than or equal to 45, when compared to the unexposed molded article. Methods of making the thermoplastic composition, and articles prepared therefrom, are also disclosed.

Polycarbonate-poly(alkylene oxide) copolymer compositions and articles formed therefrom

A method comprising treating an article with steam, wherein the article comprises a composition comprising an amount of a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer effective to provide thermal and hydrolytic stability to the article for at least 15 cycles, wherein each cycle comprises 20 minutes of contact with steam at 100&#xb0; C., at atmospheric pressure. The articles are of utility in a wide variety of applications such as food service and medical applications.
