Provided is a communications sub. The communications sub, in one aspect, includes a fluid chamber, and a pressure-activated indexing device positioned within the fluid chamber, the pressure-activated indexing device including a lock mandrel configured to incrementally move between an engaged state and a disengaged state when subjected to two or more pressure cycles. The communications sub, in accordance with one aspect, further includes a latch body positioned in the fluid chamber, the latch body configured to be fixed in place by the lock mandrel and close a fluid path from the fluid chamber to a control line when the lock mandrel is in the engaged state, and configured to be allowed to move and open the fluid path from the fluid chamber to the control line when the lock mandrel is in the disengaged state.

A wellbore anchoring device having an adjustable injection valve is disclosed. The anchoring device can include the adjustable injection valve and a spring. The spring can be positioned adjacent to the adjustable injection valve. The spring can include an initial pressure setting that is adjustable prior to the anchoring device being positioned in a wellbore to adjust a cracking pressure of the adjustable injection valve.

Ball valves, methods to close a ball valve, and methods to form a well barrier are discussed. A ball valve includes a valve housing and a ball that is rotatably movable from an open position to a closed position. The ball valve also includes an actuation mechanism operable to rotate the ball from the open position to the closed position, where a fluid passage of the ball is not aligned with a fluid passage of the valve housing while the ball is in the closed position. The ball valve further includes a sleeve disposed in the valve housing and operable to shift from a first position to a second position to actuate the actuation mechanism.

Ball valves, methods to close a ball valve, and methods to form a well barrier

An actuation assembly positionable within a wellbore may comprise a primary piston coupled to a first spring. The primary piston may be positionable in a first position in which it is coupled to a release latch for restraining the release latch from actuating a ball valve mechanism. The actuation assembly may also include a locking piston coupled to a second spring and a locking mechanism positioned between the primary piston and the locking piston. The locking mechanism may be moveable between a restrained position and an unrestrained position, wherein in the restrained position the locking mechanism prevents the primary piston from moving a predetermined amount in a first direction in response to an application of pressure from a surface of the wellbore that is greater than a predetermined amount of pressure.

Remote opening tool

A system and method for opening and closing a barrier valve. The system may comprise a plurality of production tubing sections, a barrier valve, and an actuation module attached to the barrier valve. The method may comprise attaching an actuation module to one of one or more production tubing sections, disposing the actuation module, the barrier valve, and the one or more production tubing sections into an annulus, moving the mandrel with the first piston or the second piston, and moving a ball within the barrier valve to a closed position.

An assembly includes a housing of a production tubing including one or more housing ports around a housing circumference of the housing. The assembly also includes a sleeve including one or more sleeve ports around a sleeve circumference of the sleeve. The sleeve is moveable between a closed configuration in which at least a portion of the sleeve is positionable to cover the housing ports of the production tubing and an open configuration in which the sleeve is positionable such that the sleeve ports provide fluid communication between the production tubing and an annulus in a wellbore. Further, the assembly includes a shoulder positioned at an uphole edge of the sleeve to apply an opening force to the sleeve to change the sleeve from the closed configuration to the open configuration.

An annular safety valve that is positionable in a wellbore may include a housing having an opening extending through the housing to allow to allow pressure to transmit between a first annular area of the wellbore below the annular safety valve and a second annular area of the wellbore above the annular safety valve. The housing can define the opening by a seat face. A poppet may extend through the opening. A groove may at least partially surrounding the seat face for maintaining a shape of the seat face in response to an increase in pressure in the first area of the wellbore. The shape of the seat face may correspond to a surface of the poppet for preventing pressure from transmitting between the first annular area of the wellbore and the second annular area of the wellbore when the annular safety valve is in a closed position.

A ball valve that includes a ball comprising an integrally formed single-component body that defines an external surface; a fluid passage extending through the body, the fluid passage defining an internal surface; and a plurality of internal chambers formed within the body, each internal chamber of the plurality of internal chambers being spaced from the external surface and being spaced from the internal surface; wherein when the ball is subjected to one or more stresses, a stress concentration is created within a release-by-milling zone of the single-component body, the release-by-milling zone being adjacent to the plurality of internal chambers. The ball is at least partially manufactured using an additive manufacturing process.

A downhole tool having an indexing apparatus for actuating the downhole tool from the surface by applying a pre-determined number of hydraulic pressure signals to the downhole tool. The downhole having an outer tubing that has an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface defining an inner region of the outer tubing. The downhole tool includes a sliding sleeve positioned within the inner region of the outer tubing, the sliding sleeve being slideable relative to the outer tubing. The sliding sleeve including a first magnet and a second magnet that are positioned in an opposing orientation relative to one another for providing a reference point detectable via a magnetometer at a surface of a wellbore. An indexing position of the downhole tool being determined by comparing a location of the reference point on the sliding sleeve to a location of a fixed point on the outer tubing.

A system and method to actuate a downhole tool, where the tool can include a body, a closure member and a degradable actuation ring. A profile of the actuation ring can be configured to engage an actuation tool (e.g. shifting tool, ball drop, dart, plug, etc.) used to displace the activation ring via the engagement and thereby displacing the closure member to a different position. The degradable actuation ring can be degraded by an agent downhole to degrade and/or remove the actuation ring from the downhole tool thereby providing an increased clearance through the tool.

A ball within a ball valve comprises a ball, an interior fluid passage extending through the ball, a first flow passage disposed in the ball that allows fluid communication between an exterior fluid and the interior fluid passage, a second flow passage disposed in the ball that extends through a wall of the ball to the interior fluid passage, where the first flow passage and the second flow passage are on opposite hemispheres of the ball, and a flow through device. The flow through device comprises a plug disposed in the second flow passage and configured to sealingly engage the ball, and a shear device configured to engage the plug and retain the plug in the second flow passage.
