A phase transition-type liquid crystal composition including a mixture of ester-type liquid crystal compound and chiral nematic liquid crystal compound having added thereto at least one of ethane-type liquid crystal compound and bicyclohexane-type liquid crystal compound. The liquid crystal composition exhibits an extended width (.DELTA.V) of voltage hysteresis and therefore a stabilized homeotropic (H') state, when its voltage hysteresis curve is plotted. The liquid crystal display devices or elements using this composition have a fast response characteristic and enable a large scale or area display and an input operation using keyboards.

Phase transition-type liquid crystal composition

A cholesteric-nematic phase transition type liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy is used in a projection type liquid crystal display device. This allows a bright and high information contents display with a compact, light, and low cost device and allows machinery input and thus simultaneous display at remote places, such as remote conference rooms or remote notice boards, in bright locations.

Projection type liquid crystal display device

A storage type liquid crystal composition in which a nematic-cholesteric mesophase transition is utilized and the anisotropy of the dielectric constant is positive and an X-Y dot-matrix-type storage-type liquid-crystal display element comprising the composition. The present liquid crystal composition has low driving voltage and long memory effect. This composition comprises a cyclohexane-type liquid crystal, an azoxy-type liquid crystal, and a compensated cholesteric liquid crystal and/or cholesteryl oleate.

Storage-type liquid crystal composition

A holographic recording material comprising a polymer containing vinylcarbazole rings, a cyclic cis-.alpha.-dicarbonyl compound capable of forming a radical by light irradiation and a dye as a photosensitizer or a spectral sensitizer. A hologram can be obtained by exposing the holographic recording material to an interference pattern of a radiation to form a holographic interference pattern, subjecting the material to a swelling treatment in a first medium, and then subjecting the material to a contraction treatment in a second medium.
