A tube for use in a heat exchanger includes an upper portion, a base portion spaced from the upper portion, and a partitioning wall depending from the upper portion. The partitioning wall is bent away and spaced from the base portion in a first section of the tube to form a single flow channel within the tube along the first section. The partitioning wall contacts the base portion in a second section of the tube to form a partition separating a first flow channel from a second flow channel along the second section. The first section of the tube is configured for reception into an opening of a header tank of the heat exchanger.

A method of passively suppressing noise within a heat exchanger comprises the steps of preselecting a plurality of sound wave travel distances formed between a plurality of surfaces within the heat exchanger to cause destructive interference of a preselected set of sound waves as the sound waves travel the preselected sound wave travel distances and assembling the heat exchanger to have the preselected plurality of sound wave travel distances formed between the plurality of surfaces formed within the heat exchanger.

A tube for use in a heat exchanger comprises a first portion spaced apart from a second portion. At least one reinforcing structure having a non-circular cross-sectional shape extends between the first portion and the second portion to divide a flow of a fluid through the tube into a first flow channel to one side of the at least one reinforcing structure and a second flow channel to a second side of the at least one reinforcing structure. A fluid communication channel provides fluid communication between the first flow channel and the second flow channel. The fluid communication channel is at least one of a) formed through the at least one reinforcing structure and b) formed between two adjacent ones of the reinforcing structures.

A connector for a component fitting assembly of an air conditioning system includes a substantially planar plate having a recessed portion and a slot portion. The recessed portion and the slot portion are formed in the plate to define an opening for receiving a conduit therein. A method for coupling the conduit to the connector includes the step of urging at least the portion of the conduit through the slot portion and into the recessed portion of the plate, whereby the at least the portion of the conduit is deformed to correspond with a configuration of the opening to militate against disengagement between the plate and the at least the portion of the conduit disposed in the opening of the plate.

A combination heat exchanger comprises a first heat exchanger assembly and a second heat exchanger assembly. The first heat exchanger assembly includes a first end tank, a second end tank, and a first heat exchanger core including a plurality of first heat exchanger tubes extending longitudinally in a first direction. The second heat exchanger assembly includes a third end tank, a fourth end tank, and a second heat exchanger core including a plurality of second heat exchanger tubes extending longitudinally in the first direction. A first coupling includes a first attachment portion rigidly coupled to the first end tank, a second attachment portion rigidly coupled to the third end tank, and a thermal expansion portion extending between the first attachment portion and the second attachment portion. The first coupling allows for relative translation between the first end tank and the third end tank in the first direction.

A receiver drier comprises a housing and a filter unit. The housing includes a moisture absorbing chamber and a longitudinally spaced filter chamber. The filter chamber includes an inlet formed adjacent a first portion of an inner circumferential surface thereof and an outlet formed adjacent a second portion of the inner circumferential surface. The filter unit is received within the filter chamber and includes a main body defining a first filter compartment therein. A first surface of the first filter compartment is defined by a first screen element fluidly coupling an interior of the first filter compartment to an exterior thereof. The flow of the refrigerant enters and exits the first filter compartment while flowing in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the receiver drier.

An extruded multi-port tube for use in a heat exchanger comprises a main body extending longitudinally from a first end to a second end thereof. The main body is divided into a plurality of longitudinally extending segments. Each of the ports formed in the main body extend from the first end to the second end thereof for conveying a fluid therethrough. Each of the ports extend substantially parallel to the main body along each of the segments thereof. Both the main body and each of the ports of one of the segments are offset laterally relative to both the main body and each of the ports of an adjacent one of the segments.

A charge air cooler comprises an outlet tank having a drain mechanism integrated in a wall thereof. The drain mechanism comprises a first valve head disposed to a first side of the wall, a first spring member disposed between the first valve head and the wall, a second valve head disposed to a second side of the wall, a second spring member disposed between the second valve head and the wall, and a valve stem coupled to each of the first valve head and the second valve head. The valve stem is reciprocatingly disposed within an aperture formed in the wall. The drain mechanism is configured to be in a closed position when an internal pressure within the outlet tank is at least one of greater than a first pressure value and lower than a second pressure value.

Disclosed herein is a heat exchanger in a vehicle including a supply manifold which supplies fluid introduced from the outside while distributing the fluid to first and second cooling units. The first and second cooling units cool the fluid supplied from the supply manifold by heat exchange action. A first return manifold collects and discharges the fluid discharged from the first cooling unit and a second return manifold collects and discharges the fluid discharged from the second cooling unit.

A block fitting for an air conditioning system includes a male block portion and a female block portion. The male block portion has a first annular pilot. The female block portion has a first annular collar that receives the first annular pilot of the male block portion. The first aperture of the male block portion and the first aperture of the female block portion are substantially concentrically aligned. A first seal structure is disposed between the first annular pilot of the male block portion and the first annular collar of the female block portion. A fastener engages the male block portion with the female block portion to form a substantially fluid tight seal. One of the of the male block portion and the female block portion has a stabilizing heel formed adjacent a side surface thereof. The stabilizing heel militates against transverse dynamic loading of the seal structure in operation.

A method of bending a tube arrangement including an inner tube disposed within an outer tube is performed using a bending die having a concave groove including a curved portion extending around a peripheral surface of the bending die, the curved portion of the concave groove having at least one ridge projecting therefrom. The tube arrangement is located within the concave groove and a force is applied to the tube arrangement in a direction toward the curved portion of the bending die to cause the tube arrangement to conform to the shape of the concave groove. The at least one ridge projecting from the concave groove causes the outer tube to deform such that an interior surface of the outer tube contacts an exterior surface of the inner tube, securing a position of the inner tube within the outer tube.

Manufacturing process for tube-in-tube internal heat exchanger

A charge air cooler for use with a turbocharged engine system of a motor vehicle includes an outlet tank in fluid communication with a heat exchanger core. A condensation separator comprising an array of baffle plates is disposed adjacent a fluid outlet of the outlet tank. The baffle plates are spaced apart from each other and each of the baffle plates includes an alternating pattern of ridges and grooves formed therein to form a tortuous flow channel between adjacent ones of the baffle plates. The tortuous flow channels cause liquid water originating from the heat exchanger core and flowing through the condensation separator to encounter a surface of the baffle plates before exiting the fluid outlet. The baffle plates may be covered with a surface feature adapted to capture or absorb the liquid water, thereby preventing an undesired quantity of liquid water from entering the engine of the motor vehicle.
