A communication device, method and computer program product enable transceivers to communicate via antennas supported by a configurable housing assembly. First and second housing portions are connected at respective proximal sides for relative movement between an open position and a closed position about a lateral axis. First and second antenna elements of a first antenna array each have an elongated shape and are configured to communicate in radio frequency (RF) communication band(s). The first and the second antenna elements are supported respectively by the first and the second housing portions. The first antenna element is proximate to and substantially aligned in parallel with the second antenna element when the housing assembly is in the closed position and separated when the housing assembly is in the open position. A first antenna feed/source network eliminates array cancellations between the first and the second antenna elements when the housing assembly is in the closed position.

Communication device having a configurable housing assembly with multiple antennas

An electronic device includes at least one optically transparent substrate defining an optical transmission area and a display having an array of pixel structures each including a plurality of electroluminescent elements selectively operable to project light through the optical transmission area. An optically pellucid electrical conductor is coupled to the optically transparent substrate at a first subarea of the optical transmission area. One or more processors cause a first set of pixel structures to project light through the first subarea with a first luminous intensity and a second set of pixel structures to project other light through a second subarea of the optical transmission area that is complemental to the first subarea with a second luminous intensity that is different from the first luminous intensity.

A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple transceiver communication by antennas within a configurable housing assembly. First, second, and third antennas are separate in an open position and are proximate and aligned in a closed position. A first radio frequency (RF) transceiver communicates via the first antenna and a second RF transceiver that communicates via one of the second and third antennas via the first antenna switch. A controller is communicatively coupled to a first antenna switch and a housing sensor. In response to determining that the housing assembly is in at least partially open position, the controller configures the first antenna switch to connect a second RF transceiver to a second antenna. In response to determining that the housing assembly is in the closed position, the controller configures the first antenna switch to connect the second RF transceiver to the third antenna.

Communication device having antenna pairing based on relative positions of housing portions

A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple transceiver communication in a communication device having a configurable housing. A pivot mechanism is connected between first and second housing portions for relative movement of a housing assembly between open and closed positions. The closed position aligns four antenna positions in the first housing portion adjacent to one of four antenna positions in the second housing portion to present four pairings of adjacent antenna positions. Four antennas are positioned within the first housing portion or the second housing portion at a different one of the four pairings of adjacent antenna positions. A radio frequency (RF) front end is communicatively coupled to the four antennas and has two or more transceivers that utilize the four antennas to communicate without antenna-to-antenna signal cancellation in RF low band while the housing assembly is in either of the open position and the closed position.

Communication device having a configurable housing with multiple antennas

A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple independent communication connections via multiple antennas supported by a configurable housing assembly having first and second housing portions connected for movement between open and closed positions. In response to housing assembly being in an open position, a radio frequency (RF) front end of the communication device is configured to independently communicate in at least a low band via first and second antennas supported by a first housing portion and second and fourth antennas supported by a second housing portion. In response to the housing assembly being in the closed position that brings the first and second antennas into proximity and the third and fourth antennas into proximity, the RF front end is configured to communicate via a first antenna array of the first and the second antennas and via a second antenna array of the third and the fourth antennas.

Communication device having configurable housing assembly with multiple antennas

A communication device provides an elongate antenna element having a first and a second end separated by an aperture. A transceiver is electrically grounded to a ground plane and communicatively coupled via an antenna feed to the elongate antenna element. A first conductor is electrically attached to a first edge of the ground plane. An antenna switching controller selectively actuates the aperture switch to be in one of the open and closed positions based on whether the communication device is positioned on a body. The open position electrically isolates (a) the first end of the elongate antenna element; (b) the second end of the elongate antenna element; and (c) the first conductor. The closed position electrically couples: (a) the first end of the elongate antenna element; (b) the second end of the elongate antenna element; and (c) the first conductor.
