Provided is a protective cover system including a first protective cover and a second protective cover, both include a polymer and being pre-formed into a curved shape so as to accommodate at least a part of a wind turbine blade to be protected, each of the first and second protective covers has a tip end and a root end, wherein the first protective cover includes a first overlap portion at the root end, and the second protective cover includes a second overlap portion at the tip end, wherein the shape of the first overlap portion is substantially complementary to the shape of the second overlap portion such that when overlapping the first and second overlap portions, the resulting cross section of the overlapped overlap portions substantially corresponds to the cross sections of at least one of the first and second protective covers outside the overlap portions.

Protective cover system for protecting a leading edge of a wind turbine rotor blade

A protective shield for a rotor blade of a wind turbine is provided. The shield protects the leading edge section of the rotor blade from erosion, and covers at least a part of the leading edge of the rotor blade. The shield is preformed with a shape which approximately corresponds to the contour of the leading edge section where it is destined to be mounted to. The shield includes a mark which allows to accurately position the shield at a predetermined position on the surface of the rotor blade or which allows to accurately position a tool at a predetermined position on the surface of the shield. A method of accurately positioning a protective shield on the surface of a rotor blade of a wind turbine and a method of documenting how precisely the shield has actually been attached to the surface of the rotor blade is also provided.

A protective cover for a leading-edge of a wind turbine rotor blade is provided. The protective cover is pre-formed into a curved shape to accommodate at least a part of a leading-edge section including the leading-edge of the wind turbine rotor blade to be protected. The protective cover includes a pressure side section, a suction side section and a centerline in-between the pressure side section and the suction side section. The centerline runs in longitudinal direction of the protective cover. Thickness of the protective cover in a cross section of the protective cover in transverse direction has a thickness distribution corresponding to a standardized normal distribution.

Provided is a method of applying a protective layer to an outer surfaced of a wind turbine rotor blade, which method includes the steps of preparing a protective layer for application to the outer surface of the rotor blade; providing an air exit channel between the rotor blade and the protective layer; attaching the protective layer to the outer surface of the rotor blade; and extracting air through the air exit channel. Further provided is a wind turbine rotor blade including a protective layer applied to an outer surface of the rotor blade using such a method.

A mounting ring arrangement adapted for alignment of root bushings in a rotor blade root end during a rotor blade assembly step includes a mounting ring segment; and a partial mounting ring, which partial mounting ring is a closed annular component and includes a recess dimensioned to accommodate the mounting ring segment. A method of manufacturing a rotor blade, includes (A) arranging a fiber layup in a first blade mold and arranging a fiber layup in a second blade mold; (B) arranging the partial mounting ring of a mounting ring arrangement in the first blade mold and arranging the mounting ring segment of the mounting ring arrangement in the second blade mold; and (C) joining the first and second blade molds such that the partial mounting ring and the mounting ring segment join to form a full mounting ring.

A root bushing for a blade root of a wind turbine rotor blade, including a cylindrical bushing body and a flat contact body is provided. The contact body is provided on a face of the bushing body. This has the advantage that due to the provision of the contact body, the contact area between the root bushing and the pitch bearing is increased. In another embodiment, the root bushing includes a central bore which protrudes through the bushing body and the contact body. In another embodiment, an outer wall of the bushing body is provided with a connection structure for connecting the root bushing to a composite material of the wind turbine rotor blade.

A rotor blade of a wind turbine with a first rotor blade segment and a second rotor blade segment is provided. The rotor blade has a hollow space surrounded by a shell. The first rotor blade segment is connected with the second rotor blade segment by a bolt connection. The bolt connection has a first connection of the first rotor blade segment, a second connection of the second rotor blade segment, and a bolt establishing a bolted joint between the first connection and the second connection. At least the bolt is situated in the hollow space of the rotor blade. Furthermore, a method of connecting a first rotor blade segment of a rotor blade of a wind turbine and a second rotor blade segment of the rotor blade is provided.
