A process approach allows economical self-sustained operation of single vessel biotreatment systems for municipal wastewater treatment. The daytime solar powered treatment process is changed during darkness periods to operate the biotreatment system without electric grid powering.

A process for treating wastewater and a system for practicing the process includes: providing a plurality of zones within a single vessel wastewater treatment system; feeding wastewater into the system; maintaining an aerobic zone in the upper central portion of the vessel; feeding air into the aerobic zone for oxygenation and creating an upflow; maintaining an annularly disposed anoxic zone about said aerobic zone; causing the upflow from the aerobic zone to produce a downflow in the anoxic zone; causing at least a portion of the downflow from the anoxic zone to pass into the upflow of the aerobic zone; maintaining an annularly disposed clarification zone about said anoxic zone for clarified liquid, including an upflow; causing at least a portion of the downflow from the anoxic zone to pass into the upflow of the clarification zone; maintaining a facultative transition zone below the upper aerobic, anoxic and clarification zones; maintaining an anaerobic zone below the facultative zone for absorbing solids settled by gravity and synthesizing volatile fatty acids; withdrawing substantially clarified liquid from the upflow of the clarified liquid zone; withdrawing substantially solids from about the bottom of the anaerobic zone; employing the aerobic zone for breaking down carbon chains and oxidizing volatile fatty acids dispersed from the anaerobic zone; interacting the aerobic and anoxic zones for the removal of nitrates; and interacting the aerobic, anaerobic ananoxic zones for the removal of phosphorus.

Single vessel multi-zone wastewater bio-treatment system

A new add-on vehicular system is capable of responding to large area or nation-wide commands over paging networks, to remotely foil the unauthorized use or theft of a vehicle or a fleet automobile or a group of fleet vehicles, as well as to help the recovery of stolen vehicles. The preferred embodiment of the system comprises a paging receiver and decoder, a microcontroller with embedded programmable software and memory and a vehicular systems control interface. The system does not require central monitoring systems, or portable controls or vehicular user set controls or portable key chain controls or keypads or cellular phones or separation of vehicular transceivers from owner carried transceivers to activate the system. In a second embodiment, a two-way radio paging approach is employed in the system to expand its capabilities and to additionally provide remotely controlled transmission of data from vehicles, including data pertaining to the position coordinates of the vehicle.

The invention pertains to a method for diagnosing oncological diseases wherein an effective small amount of blood is obtained, such as from a finger, and a solution containing blood plasma or serum is exposed to laser radiation and the values of one or more parameters are determined upon measurements at molecular level. Said parameters are then compared with analogous measured or established parameters of a reference solution to determine whether there are significant variations or similarities which indicate the absence or presence of oncological diseases or a predisposition to same. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, blood plasma or serum is diluted in water up to 25% of the volume and the solution is then exposed to laser radiation in the standard mode. Measurements and determinations are then made of the coefficient of Rayleigh light scattering 'R' in the solution and other indicative parameters such as the effective mass 'M' and a parameter of molecular interaction 'B' of scattered particles in the solution. The values of R, M and B are then compared with respective reference indicative parameters R.sub.ref, M.sub.ref and B.sub.ref of a calculated or established reference standard or a reference solution, such as one obtained from the blood serum of healthy individuals. If R/R.sub.ref &gt;2, M&gt;M.sub.ref and B&lt;B.sub.ref, then an oncological disease is diagnosed.

A Computerized Mobile Two-Way Radio System is provided having microprocessor enhanced capabilities and versatility for wide area/multiple region two-way radio networks with multiple categories of users and adaptability to multiple international standards and mobile radio equipment configurations. The main elements of the system consist of (1) a microprocessor-based Control Unit, (2) a Digital Serial Interface/Link and (3) a microprocessor-based Convertible Transceiver Unit. A digital serial interface system is provided for communicating digital signals including digitized audio between microprocessor-based Control and Transceiver Units of two-way radio communications equipment. The system of the invention essentially comprises three subsystems: (1) an interface in the microprocessor-based Control Unit, (2) an interface in the microprocessor-based Transceiver Unit and (3) a two-way medium for linking the two units. Various signals and audio in the Control Unit interact with a software-driven microprocessor of the Control Unit and are digitized and then translated into a serial format, organized in channel groups through a TDM (Time Division Multiplex)/PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) process and transmitted in frames through a two-way medium to the Transceiver Unit which is also microprocessor-based and incorporates a similar interface. The digital data communicated to the Transceiver Unit then undergoes a reverse process. The Interface System is duplex (bidirectional). A preferred embodiment of the digital serial interface system for two-way radio equipment includes a three channel TDM/PCM bus structure scheme, operated in a synchronous full duplex mode using the Manchester II (Biphase-L) format. Various further embodiments include: an optical fiber link medium between a Control Unit and its Transceiver Unit(s), the addition of remote takeover of programming and controls, audio enhancement of receivers during scanning, encryption/decryption systems, cloning of programs between multiple units, control of multiple transceivers through one Control Unit and other added enhancements.

A method for scrambling speech such as in a mobile land based communication system is disclosed. Essentially, variable length time samples of digitized speech are stored and time inversion scrambled. The scrambled speech is converted back to analog form and transmitted to a receiver which reciprocates the process to reproduce the desired speech signals. Scrambling and descrambling of the speech signal is synchronized to provide corresponding sample time inversions and accurate reproduction of the speech input signal. The level of security afforded by the scrambling method may be varied by varying the length of the sampling period or by mixing forward and reverse time samples under control of an algorithm.

A control system for microprocessor and software enhanced land mobile radio communications systems is provided to increase versatility, capabilities and facilities while providing an easier and more precise control of various radio protocols. As the usage of microprocessors and software is increased in radio communications equipment, additional capabilities, digital protocols and versatility can be desired in such equipment. However, this requires additional and special controls and prior art approaches have limitations with respect to capacity, versatility, size and compatibility with digital protocols. The innovative approach of the invention provides a compact new system to replace prior art multipositional knobs and switches and refines the system of control. The novel control system provides for an efficient utilization of space while achieving outstanding versatility and new operational and control capabilities. This is achieved by advantageously accommodating microprocessors and software based radios by utilizing a multifunctional keypad in combination with a display and command/mode and control switches to access and control a large number of versatile and combined capabilities, operating modes and facilities in a compact form.

A new power system employs aluminum as a primary fuel resulting in a total energy/volume ratio several times more favorable than gasoline. The system includes a fuel store, a reactor which may be the same mechanical element as the store and means to utilize the released energy. Illustratively, aluminum may be reacted with steam to form aluminum oxide with the release of large quantities of usable energy. After the reaction, the aluminum oxide may be reconverted to aluminum.
