A method is provided for coding a current image that has previously been partitioned into blocks. The method includes, for a current block that is to be coded: partitioning the current block at least once into a plurality of subblocks; and representing) the partitioning of current block in the form of a first digital information sequence. The coding method further includes predicting the partitioning of the current block relative to the partitioning of a block that has already been coded and then decoded and that is represented in the form of a second digital information sequence, by comparing the first and second sequences with each other or by comparing the corresponding partitionings with each other, and then by determining residual digital information representative of the comparison in application of a predetermined comparison criterion; and encoding the residual digital information as determined.

A method for processing a sequence of holographic images with a view to playing the images back on a holographic display device to at least one viewer. A subset of wavelet coefficients relevant for the reconstruction of a sub-hologram visible for the at least one viewer from at least one viewing point is selected from a decomposition of at least one holographic image on a wavelet basis and information representative of a location of the at least one viewer in a repository of the display device. In the method, decomposition of the at least one holographic image is carried out on a Shannon wavelet basis.

A method for processing a sequence of holographic images, with a view to its rendition by a holographic display device to at least one observer. A holographic image is decomposed over a Gabor wavelet basis into a set of wavelet coefficients. The method includes the following acts, implemented for an image of the sequence: obtaining items of information representative of the decomposition over the Gabor wavelet basis; obtaining of items of information representative of a location of the at least one observer in a reference frame of the display device; selecting a subset of wavelet coefficients as a function of the wavelet items of information and of the location items of information obtained.

A method for coding a current block of a first image component with respect to a reference block of at least one second image component. The first and second image components are representative of the same scene, and the reference block being previously subjected to coding by partitioning, and then to decoding. Partitioning of the reference block is performed a plurality of times until a determined level of depth of partitioning is obtained. The coding method includes, as a function of the type of the first and second image components: partitioning the current block a plurality of times until a level of depth of partitioning dependent on the level of partitioning of the reference block is obtained; or partitioning the current block on the basis of a level of depth of partitioning previously initialized by a level of partitioning depending on the level of partitioning for the reference block.
