The present invention provides elastic assemblies used to model tissues or organs of interest. In one embodiment, detailed herein, the assemblies are designed to model the blood brain barrier following a traumatic brain injury. The present invention also provides elastic membranes on which the assemblies are built, kits from which the assemblies may be prepared, and systems that expand upon the assemblies, forming more physiologically relevant models. Methods for making and using the disclosed devices are also provided.

Elastically deformable components and assemblies for use in cellular assays

Engineered FGF1 and FGF2 polypeptides, polynucleotides encoding these polypeptides and DNA constructs, vectors and compositions including these engineered polypeptides are provided herein. The engineered FGF1 and FGF2 polypeptides are more stable than their wild-type counterparts and may be more effective at treating a variety of conditions that FGF1 and FGF2 are useful for treating such as wound healing.

Engineered FGF1 and FGF2 compositions and methods of use thereof

The present invention relates to the development of stable mutants of FGF-1 and FGF-2. In particular, it relates to novel engineered FGF-1 and FGF-2 polypeptides as well as polynucleotides, DNA constructs, and vectors encoding such polypeptides. In another aspect, pharmaceutical compositions and hydrogels including the disclosed polypeptides, polynucleotides, DNA constructs, and vectors are provided. In a still further aspect, methods of treating conditions using the compositions disclosed herein are provided.

Engineered FGF compositions and methods of use thereof

A magnetohydrodynamic microfluidic system and a method of pumping a fluid using a magnetohydrodynamic system are disclosed. The method includes applying at least one of an electric current and an electric voltage to a first modified electrode and a second electrode to generate an ionic current between the first modified electrode and the second electrode and to cause a current carrying species to move to or from the modified electrode, applying a magnetic field perpendicular to an ionic current vector, the magnetic field and the ionic current combining to induce flow of the fluid in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field and the ionic current vector, and maintaining fluid flow by recharging the modified electrode.
