Optical sensors and optical markers are placed on components in a medical system to provide calibration and alignment, such as on a patient transportation mechanism and spatially separated medical diagnostic devices. Image processing circuitry uses the data captured by these optical devices to coordinate their movements and/or position. This enables scans that were captured in multiple medical diagnostic devices to be accurately aligned.

A method of imaging includes obtaining projection data for an object representing an intensity of radiation detected along a plurality of rays through the object, obtaining an outline of the object via a secondary imaging system, the secondary imaging system using non-ionizing radiation, determining, based on the outline, a model and model parameters for the object, calculating, based on the model and the model parameters, a volumetric attenuation map for the object, and reconstructing, based on the projection data and the volumetric attenuation map, an attenuation-corrected volumetric image.

Method and apparatus for computer vision based attenuation map generation

A method and apparatus is provided to perform dead-time correction in a positron emission tomography (PET) by estimating a full singles spectrum using a scatter model. The scatter model can use a Monte Carlo method, a radiation transfer equation method, an artificial neural network, or an analytical expression. The scatter model simulates scatter based on an emission image/map and an attenuation image/map to estimate Compton scattering. In the full singles spectrum, the singles counts with energies less than 511 keV are determined from the simulated scatter. The attenuation image can be generated based on X-ray computed tomography or based on applying a joint-estimation to PET data.

An apparatus and method for determining a position of a point source arranged in a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner apparatus. The apparatus includes processing circuitry configured to obtain list-mode data generated from a PET scan of the point source, determine a plurality of lines-of-response (LORs) from the obtained list-mode data, determine intersecting pairs of LORs from the determined plurality of LORs, determine corresponding coordinates of intersection points of the determined intersecting pairs of LORs, and determine the position of the point source based on the determined coordinates of the intersections points.

A method for creating a look-up table includes arranging a mask configured to cover a subset of crystals of a plurality of crystals in a scintillation array. The method includes collecting a first set of data from at least one photosensor positioned to receive light generated by the scintillation array. The method further includes realigning the mask in a second position on the scintillation array to cover a second subset of crystals of the plurality of crystals. Further, the method includes collecting a second set of data from the at least one photosensor with the mask aligned on the scintillation array in the second position. Additionally, the method includes creating first and second flood histograms from the first and second sets of collected data, respectively. The method also superimposing the first flood histogram with the second flood histogram to create a superimposed flood histogram.
