Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, control signaling for communications in a wireless communications system. The control signaling may indicate a first duration for an inactivity timer. The UE may initiate the inactivity timer and a second timer based on identifying a period of inactivity. The second timer may have a second duration that is shorter than the first duration for the inactivity timer. In some examples, the second duration may be based on one or more parameters, such as a display status, a battery status, a scaling factor, the first duration, an application state, or any combination thereof. The UE may release a connection for the communications in the wireless communications system based on an expiration of the second timer, an expiration of the inactivity timer, or a combination thereof.

Enhanced connection release techniques for wireless communications systems

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit assistance information to a base station to request an update or a modification to one or more communication parameters configured at the UE. Such communication parameters may include a quantity of uplink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) layers, a quantity of downlink MIMO layers, a minimum scheduling offset, a maximum quantity of component carriers, or a maximum aggregated bandwidth for a secondary cell group (SCG). In some implementations, the UE may transmit the assistance information requesting the update or modification to one or more of such communication parameters based on detecting that the UE satisfies one or more triggering conditions or thresholds.

Techniques for providing assistance information for reduced MIMO layers

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, via a subscription of the UE to a network node, a UE assistance information (UAI) that indicates a reduction to one uplink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) layer for the subscription. The UE may transmit, via the subscription to the network node, an uplink transmission using one uplink MIMO layer on one transmit (Tx) chain of the UE based at least in part on the UAI and a timer associated with the UAI. Numerous other aspects are described.

User equipment assistance information indicating a reduction to one transmit chain for a subscription

Various aspects relate to acquisition of system information (SI). In some examples, a UE uses a guard timer to control how long the UE attempts to acquire a particular type of SI. In some examples, a UE that has entered a cell may determine whether there are any remaining paging occasions (e.g., that may indicate an SI update) during a period of time. If there is an insufficient number of paging occasions remaining (e.g., zero or one), the UE may monitor for broadcast SI. In some examples, after sending a request for SI to a base station, a UE may also periodically monitor for SI broadcast by the base station (e.g., to avoid potential delays in obtaining the SI). In some examples, if a UE does not acquire SI, the UE may use default SIB information (e.g., that expedites reselection to another cell).

Acquisition of system information

Apparatus, methods, and computer program products for DRX adjustment are provided. An example method includes receiving, from a base station, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration for the UE based on one or more DRX preferences. The example method further includes adjusting one or more parameters of the DRX configuration in response to a trigger at the UE. The example method further includes transmitting assistance information to the base station, the assistance information including the one or more parameters adjusted by the UE.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for detecting power consumption conditions to trigger transmission of user equipment (UE) assistance information (UAI) for a reconfiguration request. For example, an example method by a UE generally includes detecting one or more conditions associated with at least one metric related to UE power consumption; and transmitting UAI to a network entity, in response to the detection, to request a reconfiguration of the UE to operate according to a set of one or more parameters selected based on a value of the at least one metric.

UE assistance information (UAI) of battery power saving

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to maintain multiple message buffers for storing public warning system (PWS) information. The UE may receive a first segment of public PWS information via a first cell, where the PWS information is associated with a geographical scope that includes the first cell. The UE may perform a cell change procedure from the first cell to a second cell different from the first cell, and may receive a second segment of the PWS information via the second cell. The UE may then store the first segment and the second segment within multiple message buffers based on the second cell being included within the geographical scope associated with the PWS information.

Techniques for handling public warning system information using multiple message buffers

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. For example, the described techniques provide for efficiently requesting all (or a threshold number of) system information (SI) messages that are on demand in a random access channel (RACH) procedure. In one example, a user equipment (UE) may transmit a request for all (or a threshold number of) SI messages in a radio resource control (RRC) connection request or message 3 RACH transmission even if the UE is configured with the option to request SI messages individually with one RACH resource per SI message. In another example, a UE may transmit a request for all (or a threshold number of) SI messages on an additional resource (e.g., RACH resource or other resource configured by a base station) when the UE is configured with the option to request SI messages individually with one RACH resource per SI message.

On demand system information triggering

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, and computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for managing communications with a base station by a processor of a wireless device. In one aspect, a processor of a wireless device may receive from the base station a system information change indication in first system information. The processor may determine from the first system information scheduling information of second system information. The processor may determine a factor that a request for the second system information will collide with a request from another wireless device for the second system information. The processor may send the request for the second system information using the determined factor.

Managing wireless device communication with a base station

Wireless communications systems and methods related to user equipment (UE) idle mode mobility in a wireless communication network are provided. A wireless communication device establishes a network session with a wireless communication network. The wireless communication device reselects a first cell for camping, wherein the first cell is associated with the wireless communication network. The wireless communication device monitors for first system information from the first cell. The wireless communication device reselects a second cell for camping in response to a failure to receive the first system information. The second cell is associated with the wireless communication network and different from the first cell. The wireless communication device maintains the network session during the reselecting the first cell for camping and the reselecting the second cell for camping.
