A method for the rapid restarting of an internal combustion engine that is slowing down at a reduced supplied air volume, in which the supplied air volume is increased again following a detected restart request and an ignitable fuel/air mixture is produced by a fuel injection in an intake cylinder that is in the intake cycle when the supplied air volume is increased, and the mixture is ignited in the intake cylinder to produce a combustion in the power cycle of the intake cylinder.

Method and device for controlling an internal combustion engine

In a method for stopping an internal combustion engine, a quantity of air supplied to the internal combustion engine via an air-metering device, e.g., a throttle valve, is reduced after a stop request has been determined, and the quantity of air supplied to the internal combustion engine via the air-metering device is increased again when a detected speed of the internal combustion engine falls below a predefinable speed threshold value. The predefinable speed threshold value is increased when, after the metered quantity of air is increased up to stopping of the internal combustion engine, an intake cylinder no longer passes through a bottom dead center.

A method for stopping an internal combustion engine, in which an air flow supplied via an air metering device, in particular a throttle valve of the internal combustion engine, is reduced after a stopping request has been ascertained, an undershoot point in time is ascertained, at which an ascertained speed of the internal combustion engine falls below a pre-definable speed threshold value, after the undershoot point in time, the air flow supplied via the air metering device of the internal combustion engine is increased again, the predefinable speed threshold value being selected in such a way that an intake cylinder no longer enters a compression stroke after the increase of the supplied air flow until the internal combustion engine is at a standstill, a degree of opening of the air metering device to increase the supplied air flow being selected as a function of a coasting speed of the internal combustion engine.

The invention relates to a method for restarting an internal combustion engine, in which a first cylinder (ZYL) has a low air level and a second cylinder (ZYL) has a high air level, and wherein a predefined speed threshold value (ns) is selected as a function of said air levels. A method for the restart is selected and carried out as a function of a comparison of the determined speed (n) of the internal combustion engine with the predefined speed threshold value (ns).
