A thermal insulation system for an aerospace duct through which high temperature fluid, greater than 500 F, passes. The thermal insulation system can experience pressures less than 80 kilopascals and can be included in a turbine engine. The thermal insulation system includes at least a first foil layer confronting the duct, an insulation layer confronting the first foil layer, a second foil layer confronting the insulation layer, and at least one coating applied to any one of the layers.

The organometallic chemistry-based compound includes a coordination complex that interrupts an autoxidative pathway of coke formation. The contact surface is functionalized with an inhibitor ligand to form an inhibitor ligand-functionalized surface. Systems and methods are provided for controlling a power generating asset having an energy storage device. Accordingly, a controller of the power generating asset initiates a state-change event for the energy storage device. The controller determines an actual equivalent series resistance (ESR) function for the energy storage device based on a change in a first and a second electrical condition at each of a plurality of sampling intervals of the state-change event. The controller determines a state-of-health rating for the energy storage device based on the actual ESR function and implements a control action based on the state-of-health rating.

Systems and methods for operating a power generating asset

A component and a system for mitigating coke formation during delivery of a hydrocarbon fluid. The component includes a contact surface configured to be in contact with the hydrocarbon fluid. Tuning the zeta potential of the contact surface allows selective attraction and/or repulsion of coke-catalyzing materials, metal ions, heteroatomic hydrocarbons, and/or coke precursors present in the hydrocarbon fluid. A method of mitigating coke formation during delivery of a hydrocarbon fluid includes tuning a zeta potential of the contact surface of the component and injecting or circulating the hydrocarbon fluid through the system such that the contact surface selectively attracts and/or repels coke-catalyzing materials, metal ions, heteroatomic hydrocarbons, and/or coke precursors present in the hydrocarbon fluid.

A process for treating an electrochemical cell is presented. The process includes charging the electrochemical cell in a discharged state to at least 20 percent state-of-charge of an accessible capacity of the electrochemical cell at a first temperature to attain the electrochemical cell in a partial state-of-charge or a full state-of-charge and holding the electrochemical cell in the corresponding partial state-of-charge or full state-of-charge at a second temperature. The first temperature and the second temperature are higher than an operating temperature of the electrochemical cell.

Systems and methods for recovery of rare-earth constituents from environmental barrier coatings

Systems and methods for recovery of rare-earth constituents from environmental barrier coatings are provided. One method includes extracting rare-earth (RE) oxide constituents from a feedstock containing RE silicates and non-RE contaminants. The method includes leaching the REs from the feedstock into an acid to form an acid solution, performing an oxalate precipitation on the acid solution to form an RE oxalate hydrate, and separating the RE oxalate hydrate from the acid solution. The method also includes heat treating the RE oxalate hydrate to form an RE oxide containing the RE elements extracted from the feedstock.

A method for use in determining the thickness of a layer of interest in a multi-layer structure. A first electrode is positioned in contact with a first surface of the multi-layer structure, and a second electrode is positioned in contact with a second surface of the multi-layer structure. The second surface is substantially opposite the first surface. The first electrode is pressed against the multi-layer structure at a predetermined sampling pressure, and the structure is optionally adjusted to a predetermined sampling temperature. The electrical impedance between the first electrode and the second electrode is measured.

System and method for use in determining the thickness of a layer of interest in a multi-layer structure

The cathode comprises a plurality of granules comprising a support material, an active electrode metal, and a salt material, such that the cathode has a granule packing density equal to or greater than about 2 g/cc. A method for individually recovering multiple rare earth elements from a phosphor is also presented.

The ternary electrolyte includes an alkali metal halide, an aluminum halide and a zinc halide. An article of electrochemical energy conversion is provided that includes a separator. The separator has a first surface that defines at least a portion of a first chamber, and a second surface that defines a second chamber, and the first chamber is in ionic communication with the second chamber through the separator. The energy storage device further includes a plurality of cathodic materials. The plurality includes at least a first cathodic material and a second cathodic material. Both of the cathodic materials are in electrical communication with the separator and both are capable of forming a metal halide. A proviso is that if either of the first cathodic material or the second cathodic material is a transition metal, then the other cathodic material is not iron, arsenic, or tin.
